  • Something has been confusing me...

Does weight loss with Atkins occur through burning 3000 calories? Or does it come from the body burning fat for energy? I know he touched upon it in the book, but i'm still confused.

Atkins plan does not defy the laws of thermodynamics. that said when the human body is fueling on fats and not carbs it takes more total energy to turn the same amount of calories to energy and that is the metabolic advantage Dr Atkins talks so gleefully about. it isn't 1000s of cals but more like a couple hundred a day depending on how much you eat so when we eat only enough food in the propper Atkins ratios of heigh fat 65% medium protein about 30% and low carbs 5% or less we wll be burning more body fat for energy to make up for the difference in the availible energy cals produced by our food choices. for example how you do on the standard USDA diet of say 1500 cals would be the same as the Atkins plan at a little over 1900 cals. Add to that energy deficet you are now creating from your food the mandatory exercise program part of Atkins and you will be burning off even more body fat as fuel getting smaller and healthier.

    Happy low carbing.
