  • Weird problem - AFRAID to go off induction!!

I've completed my third week on induction. This past week I didn't really lose until this evening when I weighed in again and am down 3 pounds since yesterday.

The problem is that I think I could just stay on induction indefinitely. I don't crave anything. I made spaghetti for my family this evening with a beautiful loaf of Italian bread and it didn't phase me. For my dinner, I made my version of the mock danish with spices instead of sweetener, cooked it up in a frying pan so it was a gorgeous brown and wrapped up roasted veggies with a touch more cream cheese. Delicious! I checked out low carb ice cream in the grocery store thinking I might buy some soon, but I put it back and didn't think about it again until just now. When I wanted chocolate when TOM visited me, I just added a pinch of cocoa to the mock danish.

Is there a time when you just have to go off induction? I'm afraid to, for real. I am losing again and I am scared to death to mess with my chemistry! It's like I got over that little hump and I refuse to deviate at all.

I know exactly how you feel!

I'm on day 22 and I do not want to mess with what is working. I didn't lose anything for a week (I actually gained 2 lbs back - but lost them again as of this morning) but I still stuck with induction. I enjoy the food, like how I feel, and plan to stay on induction untill I get within 10 lbs of goal.

Maybe, this isn't the absolute best way to do the program, but I remember reading DANDR (loaned the book to my sis, so I can't tell you the exact wording) and in the reasons to move out of induction and start going through the rungs that you will have to be willing to slow your weight loss if you start OWL.

There are many others in this forum with way more experience than me who will hopefully reply to you as well, but this is just my two cents.

PS I notice that you and I have similar stats!

I felt the same way when on induction. Eventually, after six months, I moved...and regretted not moving sooner. Rest assured, you do still lose weight on OWL. The other thing I felt was that, though I thought I wasn't bored with induction foods, when I got to OWL it was great to have the extra food choices.

If I were to start over, I'd move much sooner. It's true my losses in OWL were more erratic... I'd kinda stop/start a bit which at first was a little worrying...but the trend was definitely downwards, downwards, downwards all the way to goal.

      Just my two cents.
      Happy losing!

Yes there is a time you have to go off Induction, it's when you have 5-10 pounds left to lose and you need to go on pre-Maintenance. You should have tried by then all the rungs that you anticipate ever adding back in to check for negative impacts. This is by no means the suggested route to do the Diet, but I can certainly understand the comfort of Induction.

Just remember, when you go to OWL, it doesn't mean your main diet has to change much at all. Just because your CCLL is higher (once you figured out what that is), it does not mean you have to eat at that level every day. I still for instance eat lower than mine. You also do not need to eat OWL foods every day, and it is better if you don't to catch the cravings monster.

Don't be afraid to go to OWL. When I started I did me 2 weeks of induction...2 weeks extended induction and then 6 months OWL. I lost 60 pounds in 7 months before I fell off the wagon and regained 33. But if you are following the book doing the phases is what will help you find what your critical carb level is and how to maintain successfully. And the first step is to add 5 grams of vegies. You can do that no problem. Best of luck!

I think I will stay on induction for one more week - that'll make a month. Then I will start OWL.

Sounds good. That give you a week to make your plan. Go over there and read the stickies now so you know what you are doing ahead of time.

Re: Weird problem - AFRAID to go off induction!!

In DANDR, there is a chapter about when it is time to move from induction to OWL. I'd suggest that you read that. It has a series of questions that helps you determine whether or not you are ready.

I remained on Induction for about a year and then moved on to OWL but I continue to keep my carbs below 40. It works for me.
