  • HELP! Getting disappointed!

    Hi,

I am now on my 16th day of induction and am getting frustrated. The first 5 or 6 days I did great. My start weight was 292, and I was down to 282 after only a few days. I haven't lost an ounce since then and have actually gained - I was just away for the weekend and didn't weigh myself since last Thursday. I didn't cheat at all while I was away, and now I'm at 283.

Why? I'm getting discouraged that maybe this diet isn't for me.

I am really hoping my scale is broken!

Hang in there! I gained a pound in my second week of induction and then stayed the same for two weeks. OWL really got things moving again. Just be patient and be good -- it'll happen!

Weight fluctuates by as much as 3-4 pounds during the day - it's impossible to expect a constant number every time you weigh. Some factors you have to consider are what you're wearing when you weigh and everything you've consumed during the day that's still in your system. I always weigh in the morning on an empty stomach before breakfast and without clothes. Try to weigh in the mornings since you're most likely to get the lowest reading.

One thing to remember is that you didn't put the weight on very fast, it takes time to lose it, and thats true of all diets and WOEs. What Kittie and h2o said is very true, and try not to watch the scale too closely. And when you read it, remember that it only tells you part of the story, not all of it.

Thanks....I was a little better this morning, at 278, which would mean 14 lbs gone. I'm going to buy a new scale because my brother said he thinks it's wrong. And I'll start weighing myself only in the mornings. Thanks everyone!!

            Re: HELP! Getting disappointed!

Melissa, I felt like that early on, but since then I've learned that scales are really just dumb machines - they can't tell the difference between the weight of what's in your intestine, retained water, muscle mass, or the stuff in your pockets. It's easy to become obsessed with wanting to see downward movements each an every time we step on the scales, which can not only become scale-hopping 10-times-a-day madness, it can set you up for real dissapointment. Once the initial induction "whoosh" is past, it is normal for ups and downs to occur, associated with what you eat and drink (esp. salt), the intensity of your workouts, time of month for us ladies, medications, and other factors. Less frequent weighing will better your chances of seeing a loss on the scales. Taking measurements will often show inches lost even if the scales don't cooperate. You should be feeling better and getting healthier; but don't expect induction-rate loss to continue. Weight loss normally slows way down, and will sometimes plateau between periods of further loss.

Hang in there - weigh to go on your great progress so far!!

Don't obsess over the scale, they don't see the whole picture. I have personally lost a whole SIZE without the scale moving. Inches and clothes are a much truer measure of your body changing.

Take heart. It IS for you. Stick with DANDR as written and watch the miracle happen!
