Re: walnuts-can i n extended induction
actually if you check in your DANDR in the section on nuts Dr Atkins very clearly says after 14 day induction is over nuts are the first thing he tells his patients to add back to their eating. one ounce is all you get though as Dr Atkins also believed that one ounce was the limit for the carbs acceptable from them in DANDR also.by the book atkinseer

2big is of course right on. Just make sure you are practicing portion control on the nuts as they are the monkey on lots of people (ok mine) if you let them get out of control.Kent - 35-M-6'4"

That confuses me. I thought the rungs were 1. veggies, 2. dairy, 3. nuts and seeds.Originally posted by 2big4mysizeactually if you check in your DANDR in the section on nuts Dr Atkins very clearly says after 14 day induction is over nuts are the first thing he tells his patients to add back to their eating. one ounce is all you get though as Dr Atkins also believed that one ounce was the limit for the carbs acceptable from them in DANDR also.
So we're supposed to add nuts before we do the additional veggies and dairy rungs?

Re: walnuts-can i n extended induction
If you plan to stay on Induction a long time you can add in nuts. If you move to OWL, you go by the rungs. See the additional nutrients you get from moving up the OWL rung, compensates for the nutrients the nuts will provide to long time Extenders.Originally posted by cristylpThat confuses me. Just be ware that nuts are probably the #1 trouble food for OWLers in terms of stalling/stopping weight loss and in terms of portion control: 1 ounce isn't a large amount---maybe a couple of tablespoons depending on the type of nut. So if you choose to add nuts, if you experience any problems with weight loss or your blood sugar instability symptoms return, drop them from your menu ASAP. Likewise, if you find that you have problems controlling your portion size, drop them from your menu ASAP.
Also be aware that nuts are high in fat. So you'll need to be sure your fat % stays within range.

Re: walnuts-can i n extended induction
That's just what I'm thinking, Heidi. I keep hanging onto Induction because I'm scared to move up the rungs. But I'm getting bored with it and it's causing me to slip up. This might be just what I need to get over my fear of moving on. I just sat here and counted out a pound of almonds into 16 little 1-ounce bags. It's not a bad serving - about 23 almonds. I just may try this.Originally posted by Heidi3Christi this has confused me as well ...but nuts are good for you...low carb....high fiber... and if you can control them why not I say

Re: walnuts-can i n extended induction
actually if you look in chapter 13 being bored with your food is onr of the reasons Dr Atkins gives you to move to OWL better to move then cheat and start over.
Besides what is there to fear in 5 net carbs of those yummy induction veggies added to the 3 cups you are already eating???
you can do it move on up.by the book atkinseer

Re: walnuts-can i n extended induction
And there aren't alot of people who have portion control issues with 5 net carbs more of green beans or asparagus, but there are plenty of people who can't stop with nuts!~Megs~

Re: walnuts-can i n extended induction
Ok... you two are making sense. (And I knew that already!) I've just had such a fear of moving up and that's so silly. You're right, having 5 extra veggie carbs makes so much more sense that having something I absolutely shouldn't. Honestly, there are a lot of days I'm wanting more veggies but I've had my three cups.
I really need to take the plunge!

Re: walnuts-can i n extended induction
gp for it since we know Atkins doesn't violate the laws of thermodynamics you'd have to eat over your limit form many mnay days on 5 net carbs of veggies before you gain any weight. just remember to be careful if it is a new to you veggie from the induction lists and only have the new to you food 3 times the first week so you know if you have any issues with it.
