  • indefinate induction

I've read the book, I've read the posts on here, and I know you can stay in induction phase indefinately. I'm really comfortable with this personally. Atkins is really working for me. I will be at 6weeks on Friday (I'll update my progress tomorrow). Six weeks extended is not long, but is there anyone that has chosen to do long term E.I. or indefinate induction?

You can't stay on the induction stage indefinitely. The recomended limit used to be around 6 months.

      Re: indefinate induction

I did induction strictly (no nuts) for more than 18 months till I had lost about 100 pounds then with 40-50 still to go I moved into OWL.

If you are happy and not bored with induction eating there is no reason not to eat induction a long time, but make sure you reread the section in DANDR about making the decision to move to OWL every now and again to confirm whether it is time for you to move on.

We need to allow enough time on OWL to really find out how our body reacts to the different OWL rung foods and discover our CCLL and then move to the third phase (premaintenance) when we still have 5-10 pounds to go, so dont make the mistake of staying on induction too long and risking falling off!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

        Re: indefinate induction

Im staying on it until i reach my goal of 170. Then I am going to reset my goal to 140 (my healthy weight per BMI chart) and move into OWL to get there. Ill have 30 more lbs to go then. I think that will be enough time in OWL considering it will slow a bit then.

            Re: indefinate induction

About indefinitely, you can do it as long as you need to -OR- until you have 5-10 pounds left to lose. I did it for well over a year before moving through the rungs I wanted to hit. At that point, the good doc suggests or tells you to hit your OWL rungs rather than running smackdab into maintenance. That does not mean your diet on daily basis HAS to change much (mine has stayed remarkably similar to Induction) with some additions, but you should begin to evaluate what foods you want to add long term back into your diet as soon as possible.

              Re: indefinate induction

I did it for my first 100 pounds and about 6.5 months but I did as it said in chapter 13 and moved to OWL cause I thought I wanted low carb Bread.
read chapter 13 of your DANDR and answer those questions they will help you know when you are ready to move to OWL.

that said Dr Atkins in the old DANDR said you could stay on induction as long as you needed to lose weight AND felt healthy. that felling healthy is a big thing too. Just remember to supplemtnet to make up for any deficeincies you might have based on your food choices from the induction acceptable food. Remember too that OWl will not slow your weight loss that much if you move rungs slowly. lots of our slow loser folk who went from exteneded induction to OWL actually lose more weight after they got to OWL then they had in extended induction for the same period of time.
