    Re: Quantity Eater

I'm sure bren could tell you about her batch of crockpot nuts and what whould have happened if she hadn't measureed out her serving and sat to eat it.
Remember I said in a "perfect world" disclaimer!!!!!!! Just kidding. Now I have to teach Mr. B and DS the same concept. MEASURE FIRST! As the nuts are almost gone!

      Re: Quantity Eater

For folks who are over-eaters it's hard to self-regulate immediately. It has to be re-learned. I say "re-learned" because when we were babies up to the time we were toddlers, we only ate what we needed to eat for our energy purposes. As we grew older, many of us developed bad habits like "cleaning the plate" or eating to feel good.

So we have to re-learn our natural eating instincts. But it's worth the time to re-learn. Yes, it will be difficult but not impossible. Some days you might "under-eat" during a meal and some days you might "over-eat". Eventually you'll learn those hunger cues and you'll be able to eat to suit your energy requirement.

Ketosis does take the edge off hunger but if you're in that "I have to eat this amount because this is the amount that makes me full" mentality, your mind might override the ketotic appetite suppression and you'll eat the "usual" amount regardless of having a smaller appetite.

So take it slow and re-learn. Remember the purpose of the weight loss phases in Atkins is not only to lose weight but to develop the eating habits to keep that weight off.

Don't make the mistake of what I call "water filling", that is stuffing yourself with water before you eat so you won't over-eat. That will work to a point, but it will also keep your stomach in it's nice stretched out size. So you will want to avoid having a size 6 body with a size 26 stomach capacity!

You can do it. Be aware of what you eat and keep asking yourself through your meal if you are still hungry. EVentually, you'll recognize when you are satisfied and you'll be able to stop yourself.

        Re: Quantity Eater

I have started using a smaller plate, simply because I am compelled to clean my plate--and I guess I'm cheap, so I don't like wasting food either--I haven't got the heart to leave stuff on my plate that starving children would want, and yada yada yada, all that other stuff my mom told me. I just eat on saucers, basically...unless it's a salad, I'll put that on a big plate, or if it's a fancy dinner, I'll put that on a larger plate, also.

Since I've started using the smaller plates, I've gotten fuller sooner--my eyes see that I've eaten almost everything on my plate, and my eyes don't tell my brain that the plate is just smaller--it's a trick.

I also drink LOTS of fluids with each meal--that really fills me up, too.

Measure out servings of snacks, and put THOSE on a plate so your body realizes it's a meal.

Hope this helps you--it sure helped me!

Have you thought of using heavy whipping cream instead of half and half? I have always drank coffee and I still lost weight.

Thanks for putting it this way. I still have a problem with over eating legal foods. If I don't put the brakes on pretty soon I'm going to end up this way...size small body with a size XXL stomach.
