  • Freakin' out here..

    Hi people..

it's been 6 days and no weight loss!! freakin' me out!

I did drink quite a bit of Diet Pepsi last week.. (feel off my no aspartame/caffiene wagon) Is this my problem?

My average carbs is 13, calories 1750 (my 'function' level is 1800)
Also, I've exercised for 20 minutes every day, and I drink all my water.

    Help help help.

Have you measured recently? Is perhaps your body perhaps going through a metamorphsis and redistributing the weight? There are lots of reasons for momentary hesitations. Certainly it is frustrating, but the question really becomes do we want to risk the progress so far to start tweaking it? I know the frustration, and can just suggest keep perservering the scale will come around very soon!

      HI Kent

I measured and everything except my thighs and calves is the same from last week. my calves are 1/2 inch smaller, and my thighs are 1 inch smaller. I don't get it! My waist, biceps, forearms and beck are still the same!! I exercise EVERY day! I do free weights, ride my stationary bike, do situps.. (gonna cry here)

I lost so much the first month, and I'm not eating anything different at all.

        Re: Freakin' out here..

I'm a pepsi-holic. seriously. its pepsi max I was drinking - which is norways version of suger free - but I was drinking it everyday - alot of it.
The first time I went on Atkins in April of 2004 - I quit cold turkey and lost weight.
Then I fell off the wagon and thru the next 2 years jumped on and off - never losing more then a few pounds here before falling off the wagon again. On and Off and drinking my precious pepsi max through each attempt.
When I changed my life on July 9th of this year. I did one thing different - I gave up the pepsi max again - cold turkey. It was hard as He11. The first several days I had withdrawls, my jaw hurt from my clenching it with want of a pepsi max, I had a headache - I was a real b itch to be around and then it passed. I made it, I haven't had a glass of pepsi max since.
This time Atkins clicked for me, I'm losing weight and I really believe that the difference is that I gave up pepsi max. I only drink water.
I know you can do it. It might be what makes the difference for you.
Give it a go. Pour the pepsi out and when you need to vent - I'm here for you and so is everyone else on the ADBB.

          Re: Freakin' out here..

          Thank you Lady Hawke..

I'm back on the anti-pepsi wagon again. For me I was totally addicted to Diet Pepsi.. just typing it makes me crave a glass. When I was hungry I would drink a glass and wouldn't need to eat. This was really dumb.

So today is day 1. No aspartame, no caffiene. I have a hankering for a cup of mint tea, but I cant stand it without sweetener.. so i'll pass.

On the bright side maybe I'll end up drinking more water..

But still, I've been very depressed all day, and to make matters worse I had to go grocery shopping today and my brain kept telling me.. 'your not losing weight anyway, how about a BlackForest Cake..."

          Damn brain.

its not going to be easy, but it will be worth it. I'm proud of you

your brain has a voice too - so does mine and it tells me to get ice cream once in a while. Ignore it. Be strong. You aren't alone.

You can do it Kittymomma! I know you can!!!

              Re: Freakin' out here..

Hi Kittymomma - Hang in there... I had three WEEKS of no weight loss and measurements not changing then BAM - lost 7.7 pounds in 2 weeks. (just like the ADBB members said I would!)

I have faithfully recorded everything I eat and drink since day 1. I have noticed.... if I have more than 3 sugars (low carb ones, not real ones) in a day I do NOT lose anything for the next several days. Only 1 day of 4 sugars or more does the trick. No scale moving and no measurements changing. Now when I REALLY want something a little sweet I say to myself, "Is it worth several days of eating right and STILL not losing?" Most of the time, the answer is NO. Sometimes (only once or twice), I said 'Yes' and had an extra slice of low-carb cheesecake or had stevia in my tea or ... After a few, no scale changes and no measure changes now 99.9% of the time, the answer is NO WAY!

If you know the outcome, the choices are a 'little' easier!

Hang in there... We are all here for you! Drink GALLONS of water - it helps!

                Hi Kittymomma,
Hang in there girl, I know you are working hard, and zeroed in on achieving something every single day. When results don't show up they really rock our world. To get past this, I had to put the scale away....it decreased the amount of frustration I had yelling into my head. I weigh in once a week. I have also accepted my body will shed the weight on it's time line. Accepting that, putting away the scales and accepting this is for life, and I am making a life style, so it really doesn't matter what the scales say. I watch the food, water and exercise, and participate willingly there.
It's a huge shift in the mind to move away from things that frustrate you, like expected achievements, daily!!! Think long term, not "today's weight"...
You sound like your program and daily activities are well organzied, now give them time, slow is not bad, slow means more possibly changes in our lifestyle according to Dr. A.

                  Re: Freakin' out here..

                  You can do it, Kitty!

I too, was addicted to pop--but for me it was Diet Dr. Pepper. Oh, what a heavenly taste! I didn't give it up when I started induction on August 17, and it affected my weight loss. I didn't lose as much as I could have, even though I gave it up a week after I started. I feel soooo much better that I've given up diet soda and caffeine, and I decided to go back to induction to do it "clean" and right. That was the best decision I made yet! Now that I'm totally rid of that stuff, I basically only drink water. For a treat, I might drink some flavored water (0 calorie 0 carb stuff) but it's really sweet, so I actually water it down!

You should see results once you kick the soda to the curb--and drink your water like it's going out of style!

                    Re: Freakin' out here..

good for you giving up the DP. some folk get stalled drinking diet sodas.

Now another thing is 20 min a day exercise is fine for cardio fitness but fr weight loss you need more! try upping y9our exercise to 30 min 3 days this week and 6 days next week. when you feel you can up it to 45 min and watch the fat melt off your body.

Now quick go join Jimmie 48s no weight challenge but tell her you need a pass to weigh on day 15 of your induction so you can get your metabolic resistance numbers. Dr Atkins tells us to stay off the scales during induction 14 days cause he knows we are undergoing lots of changes and it take time for those chasnges to be reflected in scale weight loss.

Heck one former Admin here lost zero pounds for all 14 days but stuck with it and with in a yr was a goalie.

Im not an expert by any means on atkins (only 4 weeks in) but you did say you did free weights and exercise every day.. perhaps you are gaining muscle mass and thats why you arent showing a weight loss on the scale. I was a weight lifting nut in highschool and I cant tell you that if you just started a free weight program you will gain muscle mass which = weight

                        Re: Freakin' out here..

EFL brings up my basic list of questions... if you're doing weights, are you moving up in weights? Have you done so recently? Are you maxing muscles each time? Muscles retain water in the fibers to flush out and rebuild to bigger better muscles. I know I gain about 5lbs of water everytime I go up in weights and max out completely. Usually I know to stay away from the scale if I'm still sore from working out. Also, have you been working out for a while, or is it a new thing that your body is still adjusting to?
