  • Veggies !

    Hey everyone

This is my first post I'm going on week 4 of extended induction I've lost 20 ibs and had a question about Veggies.

My main problem is im not a big veggie eater, I have been mainly eating alot of chicken, eggs, bacon, beef, a small amount of cheese and drinking alot of water. I'm also taking a centrum multi vitamin everyday (well almost I forget sometimes ) I'm feeling great my energy levels are way up I dont have even near the cravings for food Ive had my whole life. My question is will I be ok with just a very limited amount of veggies? I mean I really dont like veggies will my multi vitamin suffice in place of veggies ?

    Re: Veggies !

Multi-Vitamins are not made to take the place of eating food!!! You still need your veggies!! Geez, I really sound like a parent now. Honestly, you should be able to eat a balanced diet, do you think the cavemen had their one-a-days?? There's no substitute for diet full o' veggies. Why don't you like them? I (hate is such a strong word), disliked veggies very much before this WOE... now, I've made some really great recipes with them, and have gotten used to salads... even if my friends are shocked (I used to get a chef salad and eat everything besides the lettuce). If you want some recipe advice to try some things, I can help. But anyway, cutting veggies, modifying atkins. no. *slaps your wrist*

Oh, and Hi, welcome to the board, congrats on losing that much in 4 weeks!!

I have to agree with Lyssie, Veggies are an important part of Atkins diet. I'm sure there are folks who have been very successful losing weight and not eating them, but they are just not doing their health any good at all. While I believe that depleted soils and slopping farming has robbed veggies of much of their nutrients, there are still so many things that just can't be found in a pill.
We have a lot of recipes and posts from folks who don't like veggies and I'm sure you can find something to eat that you'll love.

yep those veggies are important and contain micronutriants not found in vits. if you use www.fiday.com the free site you can make your vit a custom food and "eat" it daily then go to the reports section and see what nutriants you are low in and decide for yourself.
remeber when the body become defient in stuff it needs it slows down and shuts down production of chemicals and those missing chems can have a cascading effect.

          Re: Veggies !

Before I started this woe the only veggies I liked were canned peas and corn on the cob. When I started, I decided to start trying veggies that I had never really given a chance. Some I still don't like (brocolli, brussel sprouts), and some I now love, cauliflower, turnips, jicama (i'd never even heard of it before!). What I did was search for recipes that made them more interesting, mock mashed potatos (made with cauliflower) fried diced turnips, creamed spinach etc. I also included recipes for many veggies that I hadn't really thought of as veggies, like pumpkin and rhubarb.

If you are creative, you will be amazed! I also found that things I hated when i was younger and had refused to eat for years, taste different to me now, i guess I had just never given them a chance.

You're diet seems to consist mostly of protein, you also really need those veggies for their fibre as well as their nutrients.

the majority of your daily 20g's of carbs should be coming from vegetables.

            Re: Veggies !

Try to see if you can incorporate veggies into your pre-existing staple foods. Add peppers, mushrooms, onions, olives, whatever to omelettes. Add celery and peppers to egg salad. Saute peppers, mushrooms, and onions and top your steak. Mix pumpkin, cream cheese, splenda (optional) and cinnamon, top with whipped cream, and you've got a great VEGETABLE that tastes like dessert! Skewer vegetables and meat for kabobs. Roll up some vegetables with cream cheese and lunch meat.

It's not that hard to add veggies to the stuff you're already eating! It is neccessary for good health to eat this stuff, and you might find you actually like it!
