  • Hello People!

Well this is my first post, but not going to be my last. I been doing Atkins for about 3 weeks now. I had a couple of slip ups, very minor. But my real concern is this... 2 weeks into the diet I got a membership at the gym here in town. In the first week of the diet I lost about 8lbs. Since I been going to the gym I havn't lost any, I actually gained a pound or 2. Anyone know as to why this is happening? Also I have a minor question in regards to Diet soda's, I read on here people having to give up diet soda's due to the caffeine but what if its diet soda with no caffeine in it? is it safe to drink then?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

    Welcome to the ADBB!
I'm not sure how to answer your questions - don't worry though - someone will.

I gave up drinking pepsi max (thats suger free pepsi in Norway) and I know it made a big difference for me. Its hard the first few days with withdrawls and such - but after - easy.

YES ITS YOU! it was your thread I read about giving up the diet pepsi or the pepsi max. I think you were replying to someone about diet pepsi??? I am not totally sure about that now, that was days ago. But either way, the topic was interesting. Thanks for the response!

Don't concern yourself about not losing, it can be a lot of reasons, and one could be that your gaining muscle which is denser than fat. It could be that normal hesitation time that we all get following Induction and it can be you just ate to much salt and your body is retaining water.

Welcome and congrats on your loss so far... Most people do not lose as much the 2nd week as the 1rst and then your body pauses losing to adjust to all the changes... it will start back up again... so hang in there!!!

                Re: Hello People!

I would have to guess that it has something to do with working out. I just joined a gym as well and I was told by one of the employees there not to be upset if I didn't lose weight right away because I would be gaining muscle. She also told me if I was faithful, I would for sure see inches lost. So...don't worry about it. As long as you are doing everything right...working out will only help you in the long run.

As far as Pepsi, I don't know. I hate carbonated drinks. Cappucino is my weakness and unfortunately they don't make a suger/carb free cappucino that I know of.

                  Re: Hello People!

Congratulations on your weight loss so far and for your positive, go get em attitude - that will help you through all the Atkins phases.

As for the diet pepsi well, you shouldn't really have it. Dr. Atkins recommends using only Splenda and diet pepsi doesn't contain Splenda. If you read his books and his articles he explains why artificial sweeteners (excluding Splenda) are not really recommended for anyone.

I would urge you to try, try, try to drink just water. I know it's hard but it will definitely be worth it. The rule of thumb is 8 8 oz glasses per day plus (1) 8 ounce glass for every 25 lbs you want to loose.

There are a gazillion (I think that's a legal number) of very, very good reasons why water is important for weight loss. It helps flush your system and washes that ugly fat right away, it helps to maintain elasticity and it's so great for your complexion. It will be hard to adjust to at first but once you start drinking it, you'll actually start to crave it and believe me, before Atkins I NEVER drank water. Once in awhile when I'm bored of water and I've had all my mandatory water, I'll put Crystal Light in my water but only as a treat as it can stall some people.

If I don't get all my water in during the day I really notice it the next day and you will too once you get use to it.

Katlambert - there is a sugar free cappacino made by General Foods called International Coffee that comes in a tin and can be bought at most supermarkets.
Just not sure of the carb count but a friend of mine drinks it and says it tastes great.

                    Re: Hello People!

                    Franko--
Cool that you joined, you're going to do a great job. )

I had an issue with pop/soda/whatever you call it in your neck of the woods. I DIDN'T give it up when I started induction, and it gave me huge cravings and I did not have the weight loss that I wanted. It was a tough couple weeks after I gave it up (I would daydream about drinking Diet Dr. Pepper) but I feel so much better that I gave it up, and the weight started coming off much easier!

So now I drink water all day, everyday, with a slice of lemon. Sometimes for a treat, I'll drink that flavored carbonated water, but usually it tastes so sweet I mix it with plain water.

And like the others have said, I'm sure the weight gain is due to muscle replacing fat. Take measurements or compare how your clothes fit. If your measurements are smaller or your clothes are looser, you're doing well.

And just out of curiousity, what exactly is your left arm occupied with in your pic?!?!? )

hahah! nah man, my arm is just simply scratching an irritating itch. I found the picture just looked as if I had no left arm, hahaha! hiding krispy kreme donuts!!!!! HAHA! mannnn, I bench press Krispy Kreme Donuts by the crate... then throw them to the moon, thats how SERIOUS! I am about not eating them. As for the coffee, I would switch to Decalf, tastes the same to me... and thats pure delicious.
