  • Hi

Hi! I'm on day 13 of Induction, but I'm planning on staying on it until I reach my goal weight. I haven't really lost inches, except for 1" in my waist, so I'm hoping that the inches catch up and start reflecting the 10lb loss.
    Started Induction: 10/2/06
    Height: 5'6''
    Weight at start: 190
    Current weight: 171
    Goal weight: 160

    Activity
    Cardio: 45min-1hr. 6 days/week
    Weights: 4 days/week

    Re: Hi

Do you ever plan on adding additional foods back into your diet? Or are you planning to stay with Induction food choices for the rest of your life? There are certainly reasons to try them before goal as the only way to check for a negative reaction is to gain weight rather than simply not lose weight. That is certainly your decision on what you add into your diet -- I can only recommend what I found to work best. Mind you this is coming from a guy who still eats often Induction level carbs.

      Re: Hi

Of course I plan on adding other foods, just not right now. I'v eheard of people staying on Induction for months, years even. Now I don't think I'd go that far, but the book even says that it's ok to stay on Induction longer than 2 weeks.

        Re: Hi

Oh certainly it is. I stayed on Induction for over a year. The book also says at 5-10 pounds left to lose one should move to Pre-Maintenance phase. That was what I was referencing.

Sorry I just realized I didn't welcome you to the board in my first post like I intended to. Welcome to the site, and I hope you find this place as supportive as I have.

          Hi tinyturtles,
congratulations on making it through induction and for 10lbs lost.
I am just starting week 5 and I thought it might help to say that for me, some weeks I have lost pounds and maybe only an inch and then the next week I will lose a few more inches and not so much the pounds.

(except atm, I can't weigh myself until the no weigh challenge is over, so the tape measure is my friend )

            Woohoo

You have lost 1/3rd of your hoped-for loss in just 2 weeks!!
            Well done, tinyturtles

As Kent has said we are told to lose our last 5-10 pounds in premaintenance stage of Atkins, after having added the food categories on Ongoing Weightloss (OWL) stage and tested our bodies for foods to avoid because they cause cravings or weightgain and discovered how many carbs we can eat and still lose weight.

On this board and other lowcarb ones it seems that the people who stay on induction till they reach goal before adding all the other foods to their regime are the ones who have problems maintaining their goal weight once they return to 'eating normally'.

The longterm goalies who post here mostly did conduct the great OWL experiment and so were easily able to slide into maintenance eating without problems as eating lowcarb becomes 'eating normally' for them!!

So I would suggest reading the chapters in DANDR dealing with moving to OWL and start to add firstly more vegetables and see how it goes.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
