Is Coleslaw allowed on Atkins? What about fried fish? Thanks in advance

    Re: Coleslaw

As with all menu items, you need to make sure everything in the dish you are considering is on the allowed list for whichever stage of Atkins you are on.

So for induction as long as the coleslaw only contains 'legal' ingredients (no sugar or veggies not on the list) it would be OK.

If by fried fish you mean just fish fried in oil or butter etc with maybe some spices or herbs then it would be fine, but if it is fish coated with something you will have to make sure all the stuff in the coating is 'legal'

Some people dip meat and fish in beaten egg then roll in grated parmesan for a coating - this would be induction-legal.
Some roll their meat in ground almonds or a mix of almonds and parmesan - this would be legal once you reach the nuts/seeds rung of OWL.
Some use flour in their coating - this would only become legal once you reach the grains rung of OWL, and should be done with wholemeal flour.

So you will have to find out what is in it before deciding to eat or not to eat!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Maybe I need to rephrase my question.

Is cabbage, mayo and fish fried with cornmeal an acceptable food on Atkins..........I'm talking about after the induction phase.

Cornmeal is not allowed until the grains rung, I believe...someone on here said it corn is actually a grain, and cornmeal can't be counted as a starchy veggie.

the answer is maybe, If your metabolism can handle cornmeal as a carb AND you have reached the grains rung of OWl then yes it can be a part of your Atkins. the mayo and cabbage can be legal in induction.

ig you need fried fish try the crushed porkrinds as your coating and have it fron day one.

One word of warning with Coleslaw, most commercially prepared coleslaw recipes are filled with sugar. If you are talking about a home-made, Splenda or artificial sweetener sweetened recipe, then yes Coleslaw is even an Induction friendly food (1 cup or less). Here's my coleslaw dressing recipe:
              1/2 cup Mayo
              2 TBS Splenda
              2 tsp Vinegar (to taste)
              Kent - 35-M-6'4"
