I don't know how true this is, but is it true that most people who have weight problem continuously see themselves that way even when they've lost weight? I know I've lost weight but I can't see it. Do you think it's all in your mind or do you have to lose a significant amount to actually see it? I'm sure its' different for everyone. Let's not all jump in a once. (LOL!)

    Hi Chris

I was like that until I put two photos together and I could then see it instantly!

Yep... it can take time for your mind to catch up with your body! But it happens... at least it did for me! Still get a few lingering 'visions', which I try to banish with positive thinking.
Keep looking at pics, oh and I just remembered that someone on this board once said that by glancing very quickly in shop windows as you pass... you'll see the new slimmer you reflected, before you quite realise it's 'you'!

When I look at myself in the mirror every day, it's very hard to see the changes. When I look at photographs side by side of before and now...it's impossible NOT to see the changes. Make sure you take pictures...they tell the real story.

You hit the nail on the head Joy, that's so true! I never see the difference as much as I do with before/during photos!

Before Atkins, I saw myself as thinner than I really was, (photo on left, Feb '06), until I saw that photo. I suddenly felt huge. Then after a while on Atkins I started noticing the looser clothes, improved posture in my reflection, and started to feel thinner, and now continue to see myself thinner, despite my migrating breasts and belly pouch. I can hide them under smaller clothes now.

I think, too, because we see ourselves all the time, the changes occur slowly enough that we don't really see it. The changes are subtle. One less chin here, one less flap there.

Plus, if you're like me, helloooooo own worst critic! It's easy to see all the faults when you're you. Others treat us with more kindness and respect than we tend to treat ourselves.

Even though I had lost weight and gone from a size 22 to a size 12, I couldn't seem to see a difference in myself...then I took this pic comparing the jeans I was wearing when I started to the jeans I was wearing then. The jeans were placed on top of one another matching rise to rise. I have since gone down 2 more sizes, but it's still hard to see a difference when I look in them mirror. I'm not sure that I'll ever truly see a difference.

                      Re: Weightloss Visibility/Self Image

Usually the way I see a difference is in side by side pics--I always think of myself as being the same, whether I've lost weight or GAINED weight!

Sometimes I'll catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror, and if I don't know that it's me--that's when I realize I've lost weight. I see the reflection as a body, not ME. Once I recognize that it really IS me, the image distorts to my usual picture of self image and I can no longer see the difference.

On the other hand, even after only 30 pounds (have lots more to go), I do see a difference. Slight, but it's there. My face had just gotten SO swollen looking, so I can see a change there. A little change in my body, but not much. (I see myself looking a little taller rather than slimer... lol.) However, like I said, I still have quite a ways to go!
