  • Another question

I am about to begin my TOM, and I always really crave chocolate and salty crunchy stuff. Will it be okay for me to eat the Atkins bar to satisfy these cravings? I also found some soy chips that have 3 grams of carbs for 30 chips, and I would really like to try a couple of them when I need a crunchy snack. Are these things okay? Has anyone tried these? Or do you have any other suggestions on what to do when the cravings inevitably hit? I can already feel them beginning, and I don't know what to do.

    Re: Another question

the chips are OWl legal for rung 6.
check the recipe section for salty chips that are legal I know there are flax chips and fried veggie chips there.

cocoa poder is a legal induction item as a spice. you can sprinkle some on cream cheese, mix with cream, or make clouds all induction legal.

Bars have enough issues to have warrented their own page on the old atkins web site to deal with their stalling effects and the basic reply was don't eat them. it isn't worth the trouble you will be opening to use them.

Yes the cream cheese and cocoa is such a help for me at TOM - it really keeps me on track!

Dont eat the atkins bars, after reading lots of posts on the induction phase, most of the people who have them end up stalling!

      Good luck

        Re: Another question

I'll vouch for the cream cheese and cocoa--it's really rich, and I can never eat as much as I think (which is a good thing!)

You can also whip heavy cream with cocoa, sweetener, for chocolate "mousse." Eat sparingly, as it's quite addictive!

Stay away from the bars! And stay away from sugar free chocolates!

For something salty, if you don't like pork cracklings, you could try cheese crackers. They are crunchy and delicious

I love making my own cheese "crackers" for the crunch. I didn't have much luck with clouds but apparently some people love them.

Cut cheese sticks or cheese slices in to small small squares. Place about 1-2 inches apart on a piece of parchment paper. Microwave until crispy. They taste like cheez-its...........yummmmmmmmmmmmm!

                    Re: Another question

Um the cheese crackers take about a minute...you sort of have to watch them because it depends on the cheese you use. The more oil/fat in the cheese, the longer they take.

mhhorses--A stall is 4 weeks without weight or inches lost. Are you truly stalled? If you are exercising, muscle may be replacing the fat resulting in no change on the scale, but a change in how you feel, how your clothes fit, etc.

Have you done a clean induction? That means, no bars, no shakes, no coffee, no soda, drinking at least 64oz of water, exercising regularly, and eating only foods on the acceptable foods list? Perhaps post a menu in a new thread and some members can evaluate your food choices, to see if there's a problem.

                      Re: Another question

thanks Julirama, I have not changed in anything, clothes fit the same, no inches, nothing.. most discouraging... I did have a clean induction and followed it carefully, since I have been on it b4 I had no problem staying within the guideline of food etc... I did that for a month... someone on another forum suggested I go to the next level and start adding some other foods, so I did... an orange, cottage cheese, and oatmeal, small amounts... I did loose a pound yesterday then gained 2 today... grrrr.. maybe it is the fat thing.. maybe I am eating too much fat food...

                        Re: Another question

mh--I answered in another thread, but I will re-state here. OWL has a series of rungs that must be followed, and you add back foods to your diet in a certain order, adding in foods with lower GI/lower carbs FIRST, and gradually working up to whole grains.

Your first rung is Veggies, meaning you add ONE serving of veggies a day to your induction menu.

By eating oatmeal, orange, and cottage cheese, you possibly could have knocked yourself out of ketosis. How many carbs were in that meal? I'm guessing at least 60. Oatmeal is rung 9 (whole grains), an orange would be rung 7 (if it's legal at all--oranges are very sweet), and cottage cheese is a FRESH cheese so it would be rung 2 (dairy.)

Please re-read the sections regarding OWL in DANDR...also check out the stickies in the OWL forum here--that should give you good solid info to do OWL the right way.
