  • Cocoa Powder...

    Hello everyone...

Is cocoa powder allowed while on induction?

    If so how much?

I just can't find the information.... and feel sure I read some-where we can.

    Thanks for your help.

    Re: Cocoa Powder...

Cocoa powder in small amounts is 'allowed' by many of us under the 'spices' section of the allowed food list. So maybe a spoonful in a day and make sure you get the unsweetened variety and count whatever carbs it has in your daily total.

www.fitday.com lists one tablespoon as having one net carb but you will need to check the packet to be accurate as what is available in USA (where fitday gets its info) may be different from other countries products.

To use it in larger amounts you need to wait till you reach the 'nuts and seeds' level/rung of the second Atkins phase (OWL) where you can add 5 net carbs of it if your body can handle it without problems.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

      Thanks Elizellen....

That was very helpful. I was able to check it and it comes to just over 1 carb per teaspoon.

      Thanks so much.

        Re: Cocoa Powder...

Since winter is upon us, I was thinking that maybe once in awhile I could use cocoa, some half and half or cream and some water with a packet of splenda to make an occassional cup of hot cocoa. Would that be okay?

That would be ok Prfctlildvl (as per what Elizellen explained) as long as you don't go over the limit and you count your carbs. The splenda would come out of your daily allowance.

Cocoa is sooooo nice and warming on those horrid damp/cold days!
