  • Why no loss?

When I first started this woe a couple of weeks ago I lost 6 pounds, well tom came and gained it back plus some then after I lost it, now I am back exactly where i started when I decided to do this woe.....I still watch my carbs,,still no sugar, I dont understand. I am exactly the same weight when I was eating sugar and carbs. I am the same in inches too, just feels a little tighter in my mid section. Wouldn't you think If I cut sugar and greatly reduced my carbs I would lose just by that even if it was slow. Before this woe I was going crazy with carbs and sugar!!! I have about fifteen pounds to lose.....I don't understand.

    Re: Why no loss?

Sure you could do that--and there are actually some diets like Sugar Busters and South Beach that are programmed like that. They do work for many people. Perhaps you are one of those people. But I would suggest sticking with Atkins a bit longer.

    Some questions to ask yourself?

Did you do a strict induction?
Do you have past cheats that could be throwing you off?
Do you drink all of your water?
Do you measure food portions carefully?
Are you tracking your carbs and percentages?
    Are you exercising?
Have you re-measured since you've started?
How much weight do you have to lose? (Is your ticker correct? Looks like you're making GREAT progress!)

I see you're a boot camp recruit--that is FABULOUS!! You should definitely notice results with that!

Sometimes our bodies want to hold on to that weight, and we need to keep doing what we're doing to flush it out--eventually your body will realize it's NOT in starvation mode or a time of crisis and will shed the fat.

And TOM SUCKS!! I always gain weight, and I don't feel like it all comes off until about a couple weeks later...if I weigh during TOM, my next week's weigh in isn't good either...but the one after THAT--usually it's fantastic. Just keep drinking your water. Water is crucial. Your cells will retain water if they think you're dehydrated or in danger...once they realize you are getting enough water for you're body, they'll release what's stored.

        Re: Why no loss?

this is my second time thru, the first time acouple of years ago I lost 28 lbs, felt great... and didnt' gain back much. This past year however I have gained some and then lost it again back and forth.. now I am wanting to loose about 10 more pounds and can't, no matter what I do, I have been tracking everything I eat on fitday.com, which is a great site. anyway, been on induction, it is much easier for that this time, almost eating the same foods as I did the first time thru and drinking water... but alas, no weight loss is happening, I am at the point of disappointment... any suggestions that would help to kick it into gear again...

          ((Sherice))

Seeing that you have 15 pounds left to lose according to your tickler weight slide, I'm guesing your body is having a great time getting adjusted to this weight loss and is trying to decide what is best for your build. It's all about the wonderful aspects of science. You might find a few hidden factors that are causing a stall after a month (4 weeks) of no weight loss....excess salt, sugar, carbs, exercise, hormones, etc.

This is a great time to see the wonderful rewards of how far you've come! Congrats on taking care of you by watching your sugar and carb intake, and I'm assuming exercise.

Which brings me to a question...have you changed your exercise routine? Increase or even dramatic changes can make a difference in weight loss, or lack of thereof.

I hope this is somewhat helpful. You're doing a great job taking care of you

          Best wishes.

              Re: Why no loss?

sherice, flax (linseeds in UK) is allowed on induction only to regulate any constipation issues we might experience, and therefore should be only used in smallish amounts - a few tablespoons if needed.

Using flax as a more generous ingredient really need to be left till you are on OWL and at the seeds/nuts level/rung.

As you are about 15 pounds from goal maybe you should now move to OWL and start adding foods and carbs to make sure you have the time to conduct the great OWL experiment where you are both the guinea-pig and the scientist observing what happens when you add the foods not allowed on induction.

Dr Atkins suggested we should have 'done' OWL and be at the third stage of Atkins (premaintenance) by the time we had 5-10 pounds left to lose.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                You're welcome, Sherice

Elizellen said it beautifully about the flaxseed and moving into OWL. Those little tasty things are just addicting sometimes, aren't they? I just wanted to add that as you think about moving into OWL, have fun finding and experimenting with the awesome different dishes of foods.

                  Re: Why no loss?

thanks for the suggestions, I did go to the next level being OWL, and added oatmeal, an orange and cottage cheese, not alot of each and looked like I lost a pound, then today when I weighed myself I had gained 2. I am using fitday.com to keep track of all my foods.. so I am being careful... but it doesn't seem to be doing the right thing...

                    Re: Why no loss?

That is because OWL is divided into rungs, and you just skipped about 8 of them.

Your first rung is Rung 1, veggies--meaning you have an extra serving of veggies (5g carbs) per day.

Uh, Oatmeal would be Rung 9 (whole grains), cottage cheese would be Rung 2 (dairy), and orange, well I GUESS that would be rung 7 (other fruits) though I'm not sure orange is acceptable even then--it's got a lot of sugar. I will have to check DANDR--which is what you should do BEFORE starting OWL--to make sure you do it the right way.
