  • Stuck after a month on induction

this is my second time thru the first time acouple of years ago, I lost 18 pounds, it was wonderful. and now I would like to loose about 10 more pounds, and went into induction again about a month ago, and am at the same weight and have not lost inches either, at one point I could feel I lost a bit, but that feeling has gone... I am being as strict as I am suppose to and tracking everything I am eating... grr it is maddening cause nothing is happening, what can I do..? and what is OWL? is there a place to look for definitions of the abbreviations you use? HELP!

    Hi Mhorses
I split your post from where you posted it to make it more visible and attract more responses.

With 10 pounds in total to lose you might do better moving into the second phase of Atkins - Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) rather than sticking to induciton foods and carb levels.

If you read Chapter 14 of DANDR (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution - we use the 2002 version here) you will see how we are advised to start to add the foods not allowed on induction gradually and in a set order to see how they affect us and prepare us for eating when at our goal weight.

We have a whole forum here aimed at helping members progress through OWL and into the 3rd stage of Atkins (premaintenance) which we should move into when we are within 5-10 pounds of our goal weight.

If you read the OWL chapter first then some of the threads at the top of the OWL forum it should become more clear.

As for the abbreviations used here we have a thread in the FAQ forum about those : http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6738

    I hope this helps

This is the thread I moved your post into, and I am sure in the next day or so more members will chip in with suggestions and advice for you.

You dont show in your signature whether you are male or female, but if female, how close are you to your 'time of the month' (TOM)? Many of us find our body can gain weight of maybe 7-8 pounds at one stage of our monthly cycle, which disappears after a week or so sometimes taking some extra pounds with it.

There are many other factors too - unfortunately weightloss is not a predictable progrssion. There is a good thread covering what can happen to our weight here in this forum http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5090 which you might find reassuring.

Re: Stuck after a month on induction

my TOM, comes and goes whenever, I haven't had one for a long time, and no, I am not pregnant.... I did think of the TOM, but I doubt that is the problem. I did add cottage cheese to my diet now and even had some oatmeal, but I will keep it down to a minimum, and was going to add alittle fruit as well and hopefully that will kick it in gear..what do you think? of course this is within the OWL list. there is 3 of us here that are on a weight loss challenge each doing a different type diet, we are all about the same, at least 2 of us are the 3rd one wont let on, and the weigh in will be this weekend... it has been actually about 5-6 weeks, since we weighed in to start... I appreciate all the help I can get, thanks...

            Don't over analyze.

You've thrown your body some HUGE curveballs in the last few weeks. Seeing a plateau at 3-5 weeks in isn't uncommon at all. - And the last 10 are a witch! I fight them all the time. LOL

I didn't see exercise mentioned here at all either?

Have you got the 2002 version of DANDR to be able to follow the order of adding OWL level/rung foods?
If you take a look at the OWL chapter you will see that cottage cheese is on the second level, fruits are either on the fourth or seventh level (depending on the type of fruit) and oats would be on the last rung.
So maybe you should start climbing the OWL ladder as per the book instead of adding them at random to be able to find out what level of carbs allows you to lose weihgt and if any kinds of foods upset your body.

There are some useful informative threads in the OWL forum to help you get started.

Re: Stuck after a month on induction

I am a horse trainer and have over 30 animals on the ranch, so I have lots of exercise. I thought I was adding the correct type OWL stuff, I got it from a list. guess it was the wrong list... although when I weighed myself yesterday I had lost a pound, I was happy with that, then today when I weighed myself, I gained 2... that is very disheartening... I am not one to give up, but I need some kind of something here.. I have been at this weight for along time.. my body is refusing to give it up

This never scores me points, but it's true.

If that's what you do for a living and your body is used to you doing that ..it's not exercise, it's lifestyle.

We see people in industries that have them doing all sorts of physical activity - but their bodies are used to that level of activity. Exercise has to be above and beyond what you do in your regular daily life.

Re: Stuck after a month on induction

I'd urge you to add carbs in the right order. Rung one of OWL is more veggies... and that's the rung where many people see more weight loss than they did in induction. Veggies contain fibre... always important for health and more regular weight loss.
Do read the book (DANDR 2002 edition). It will explain how and why this way of eating works.
Hang in there, and it'll happen!
