I would say no because you have to spend another 3-4 days tring to get back into ketosis.

Well, I guess that would totally depend on how you define "break." Are you talking a bag of oreos or a serving of almonds? Ice cream or an extra serving of cauliflower? See what I mean? Also, if you find that you are not satisfied with induction choices any longer, perhaps you should consider moving to OWL. There are lots of great posts in the OWL forum that will help!

You can do whatever you want to do !

..but then you are not going to fix the problem of your weight ..breaking induction means learning nothing ..because if you are doing this correctly then you are doing it to learn a new way of eating ..that hopefully will last a lifetime....

I could not limit myself to the veggies so after the first week or so moved on the first rung maybe if you just want more of the veggies then this would be an option for you?

Hey, try to stick with it and give it a chance. Everyone will tell you that the first 2 weeks IS the hardest. Once you get past that you will see it gets much easier. The cravings are trying to beat you, hence the reason for needing to take a break once a week. Tell them nasty cravings they're not going to win and push forward.

            No. That's not doing Atkins.

No - if you find that you are bored or frustrated with your food choice options by staying on induction you will do better to move on to the second (and MAIN) weightloss stage of Atkins.

Eating high-carb foods once a week (which is what I assume you mean by taking a break) might well knock you out of ketosis which might then take a few days to recover from as well as increase cravings and the likelihood of falling off the plan for longer periods before getting back on. This is what IrishIrish used to refer to as the 'slippery slope' and many of our members find it is the 'kiss of failure' mentioned by Dr Atkins in Chapter 11 - rule 5
              5. Eat nothing that isn't on the Acceptable Foods list. And that means absolutely nothing. Your "just this one taste won't hurt" rationalization is the kiss of failure during this phase of Atkins.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I totally agree. But you might vary your menu to make things more exciting. Have you visited the recipes??? I did great the first week of induction and then I got a little bored. Luckily by that time I had found this BB and things like flax meal and flax muffins and the mock danish...what life savers! After I started being more creative, it totally changed the boredom. Over Christmas week, I succumbed and did stall out. But I went back onto a week of induction and today I weighed and have lost two pounds. Whatever you do, don't cheat...look for yummy things to fix and keep your mind off the poisons of bad carbs...because they really are poison!!!! Good luck.

Move on to OWL--that way you can broaden your food choices and alleviate boredom. Many people stay on induction for way too long, thinking they'll lose more weight that way. I've lost the majority of my weight in OWL, and most people should. This is the phase where you re-introduce foods to see if they cause cravings or allergies. I've learned what I CAN eat and what I should stay away from--and I've been losing weight steadily.

Re: can I break induction once a week?

This is the exact thing I have been contemplating. I have read "The Carb Addicts Diet" and they have eat 2 sensible meals and one "reward meal" that has to be eaten in 1 hour or less. I don't want to consider doing that because it would be like giving a recovering crack addict "just a tiny rock as a treat". The idea of a "reward meal" or a "break" to me is just as nuts. Of course, I am addicted to carbs. I crave them so badly around my TOM. I a, trying so hard to stay on track. Maybe some people could be successful on such a plan but I am not one of them.

I'm with Elizellen on this. It really isn't a good idea for all the reasons she mentioned and could sabotage your weight loss pretty quickly.
