  • I'm bored with the food!

    Hello everyone!

After a long time being off Atkins (I got preggers, then had a preemie and comfort ate for about a year), I'm back on it, and loosing weight like mad! In 8 days on induction, I've lost 10 lbs. It's almost freaky, but I'm so pleased.

One problem, though. I'm really sick of the food. Nothing tastes good to me. Maybe I just don't remember how to prepare things, but most foods taste bland and the fats are kinda grossing me out. I'm sure I can handle this until day 14, but given how much weight I'm loosing, I'd love to continue induction a bit longer. But if I do, I need tips on interesting foods!

Here's what I typically eat. Breakfast: scrambled eggs with bacon, or a scramble with ham and cheese, or an omelet. Lunch: A salad (my favorite), or sometimes left overs from last night's dinner. Dinner: Baked pork with sage, BBQ steak (no BBQ sauce!), roast children, or chicken breast with pork rinds (probably my favorite), along with a veggie. I'm not usually snacking, but sometimes I'll have a cheese stick or a hard-boiled egg. I wish I had something a little dessert-like to eat, but the only jello I can find that doesn't have sugar has Nutra Sweet, and that stuff makes me feel ill. Sometimes I have deviled eggs. I do cheat a bit on caffeine and drink a Diet Coke with Splenda once in a while.

I'm so tired of it all, already.

Any ideas on what I can do to spice things up? I've reviewed the recipes, but a lot of them aren't appropriate for induction, I don't think.

    Thanks for your help.

If you cant find anything appealing on our food and cooking forums or the recipes database (link at the top of the page) take a trip to Linda's lowcarb site at http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/ where she has lots of ideas - she even flags up the induction-legal recipes!

Brook suggested I do a search "Jimaca" and looks like people do cook it---direction on how to also--- I just peeled and chopped it up and ate it like a potato chip on the side of my burger...OMG...I mean it was so good!!! this board is the best place! Never would have tried it otherwise.

Re: I'm bored with the food!

my app is definietly down these days, and i have to admit that it's not so much that i'm bored with food, but that it's just not my focus. i can go like 6+ hours without eating, and then i actually have to stop and put something in my mouth because i know it's not good to go so long without eating at least some veggies.

maybe that's the master plan... taking food out of the center ring of our lives, where it used to be. lol!

seriously, check out the recipe threads and lowcarb recipe websites - your options are really quite large and varied.

Another thing that helps is to experiment with different spices. There were many spices that I'd never used before I started this WOE. Spices make it seem like a different meal. Also, sometimes it helps to just eat breakfast foods at dinner and vice versa. Mix up your selections, for instance if you usually eat green beans with chicken, try cabbage or broccoli or another veggie that you don't normally eat with that selection of poultry or meat.

Thanks for the tip about Jimaca. Never heard of it. Didn't know it was induction friendly. I will try it!

I like the idea of the website that flags induction-safe recipes...but I can't get it to do anything other than show the "WELCOME TO GENAW.COM " banner

                  .

Imo, this is the "right track". If you're going to be successful at a long term stable weight you need to pay attention to what you put in your mouth without making it the focal point of your existence. Don't demonize it, but don't "angelize" it either...using it as a reward or celebratory material isn't clever when you're an addict.

Automate most of your routine. Eat the same thing quite a bit. You'll acclimate, believe me! I *know* what I'm having for lunch and breakfast and at least one snack every day, and it makes shopping/planning/succeeding easier in many ways. I throw my variety into dinner and one snack per day and even then I stay within my food range and away from any triggers.

Don't be afraid to break your addiction to variety along with sugar.

Deviations should be conscious planned choices once you KNOW they won't trigger a problem. Deciding to have something extravagant is a planning process, imo. You should consider it whenever possible.

Does this mean I never just spontaneously decide to eat something? No, but I'm aware that I may then need to compensate and that I need to monitor my reaction(s) to it for future reference.

                  Just my 2 cents...

I much prefer pork or beef roast.

That was just too funny after the day I've had with my kids today!! LOL!!

Re: I'm bored with the food!

Dear Kristina and members of this forum,

Congratulations on your loss and Keep up the good job!

I passed the induction phase two days ago, but I won't move on until I see some weight coming off (I haven't stepped on the scales for years, but I know what my ideal weight is judging by what I can wear and what not). Although I feel much better since I started, and I think I have lost some inches (not so sure though, but my jeans feel looser), I don't have the amazing results I had when I first did it a year ago.
Perhaps my downfall is that during the last 14 days I have not been doing any exercise because of my heavy schedule. But I do cycle everyday for about 15 minutes and I walk wherever I go. I eat pretty much the same things I ate last time I was in the induction phase.
I want to lose 10-15 kilos and I am 1.71. A typical day would be black coffee in the morning, a cup of sliced cucumber with olive oil around 11.00, a 4-egg omelette with tuna and a cup of sliced cucumber with olive oil late in the afternoon, and for dinner the same I had for lunch replacing tuna with tofu. (I am a vegetarian and I can only eat tuna). Could it be that I eat too many eggs? Last time I only ate tuna and cucumber (or other vegetables) three times a day and the weight came off so quickly... but I think I was going to the gym as well.

Any advice will be much appreciated. Thank you for your time

                      Zoe

I've been doing some poking around, and these two sites offered the best induction recipes (in my opinion):

                        First, Linda's: http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/snack_recipes.html

                        Then, Low Carber: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=125868

Thanks Kristina for the prompt reply, but it's not food I'm worried about (although I'll have a look at your suggested websites). I wonder whether the lack of exercise hinders my weightloss. But then again, anyone who does not eat much shouldn't lose weight?
