I don't count Stevia. I buy it by the pound (white powder extract) on the Internet and I put it in a salt shaker with tight flip lid. It's an herb and oriental people have used it in cooking for years. Google it!
I bought the a liquid version the other day and absolute hate it, it tastes awfull, so I hope another form will not be like that, I really would like to find something I can use instead of splenda, because of it being chemical
I got mine at Trader Joe's. It's in the supplement section. It's ok, I tried it again in a smaller cup of tea and it did have a slightly funny taste. Maybe for a small cup I'll use 1/2 packet or less.
At Trader Joe's it came it packets, which are 1 carb count for the packet. Then they had the sprinkle kind and something else. I really didn't have time to check it out.
I'll have to give it a week and see what if I really want to use it vs the splenda.
P.S.: I made a dessert using cream cheese, egg, splenda and van. extract, that I got from another posting. I had the biggest headache ever and the splenda really tasted YUCKY. I guess it was the amount that was used. I wasted a whole 8oz package of good "name brand" cream cheese. So I guess that desserts are off for me, or make the recipes using less splenda.
I use the powder version of Stevia from TJ's in the shaker bottle. I really like it. Stevia does taste different and I hear the liquid is not so great. Also I think the liquid is a much higher concentrate and you really only need a tiny tiny bit. When I first started using Splenda I got horrible headaches afterward. But that has subsided and Splenda doesnt affect me that way anymore. But given the choice I will use Stevia. Splenda kinda creeps me out.

Stevia definately tastes different than other sweeteners, and different than sugar. some people find it bitter, others are fine.
I
didn't notice an after taste. I have the packets. I used one whole one in a 20 cup of tea. How would I count it? And what's so good about it?
Stevia is an herb rather than a chemical which splenda is. I grew stevia plants in my garden last year and made my own stevia liquid, despite the green colour, it came out really good.
You should coun't the packets as 1g each. For anyone that gets stevia in any powder form, read the ingredients, like other sweeteners sometimes it's 'bulked up' which accounts for the 1carb. usually if it comes in packets this is the case. I buy the 100% pure powder which is carb free, but a little harder to measure into a coffee since it's so sweet.
I wasn't crazy about stevia when I first tried it as i was hoping it would taste more like sugar, But i gave it a chance, and became used to it..now i love it.
