  • induction carbs dont add up.

Hi, I have posted a couple of times about not losing much on ongoing induction.

I have a question. If you follow the induction rules,,,ie 3 cups salad vegetables etc, cheese etc..your carbs for the day are supposed to add up to 20 grams however i follow it perfectly and i am regularly only up to 13 grams a day. I am confused as to what to do. Is it possible because my carbs are only about 13 that it is hindering my weight loss, as its very very slow.I have been using Fitday and my carbs only add up to 2%. Someone mentioned something about a formular of per centages for the day..ie ..% of protein, fat, carbs etc. Does anyone know the accurate % for induction.

Grateful for any help i can get.

Re: induction carbs dont add up.

The LIMIT on induction is 20 carbs. As long as you're eating your 3 cups of induction veggies and you're below 20, it's not that much of an issue. On induction, I usually only ate about 15 or 16 carbs per day. The percentages you want are 65% fat, 5% carbs, 30% protein. Obviously, if you're eating below 20g of carbs, you might be lower on your carb percentage.

Most people get a jumpstart to their weight loss by moving up to OWL rung 1, veggies. This means you add another serving of induction veggies. They may be salad or "other" veggies from the list. When I moved to OWL rung 1, I was finally able to eat 20g of carbs per day! And yes, I was one of those people who had a huge increase in weight loss. I lost 13 pounds that first month of moving to OWL.

Re: induction carbs dont add up.

Thanks heaps..I have been frustrated with induction as i have been on it for two months and lost four kilos, two of which were in the first week. It sometimes goes down a kilo and then i put it on again thenext week. then it drops again.I try hard not to get frustrated but i have such a long way to go, its getting me down. I have increased the vegetables to three cups instead of two as i was previously doing and drinking much more water, but still the weight doesnt move. If it went down a kilo a week i would be happy but it sometimes takes two or three for a kilo....I have 50 kilos to lose altogether...really getting concerned.

Age it should be a 4 letter word. It slows us down some. Are you exercisisng? Measuring?Drinking enough water? I would try moving into OWL and see if that helps it did for me.

Thanks laurenfra, but yes i am measuring and drinking nearly three litres of water a day.

People have mentioned a few times moving into owl but i dont get it. If i am not losing on the low carbs of induction now, then how will i lose by increasing the carbs? I dont get it.

One other thing to consider is portion size. If you are eating your three cups of vegetables, and they only account for 2% of your total intake, that means your fat/protein intake is large. Atkins said 'calories don't count'.... he never said 'don't count calories'

                Thanks cocobelle,
Well I worked out my calories etc and my calories are around 1600 a day so i dont think that is the problem.

My concern about going on OWL is that I was a diabetic and my sugar levels have dropped and i am not diabetic any longer on this diet. IF i increase my carbs that could raise my sugar levels which would be fine if i had lost a substancial ammount of weight. But i havent. Does anyone know more about diabetic sugar levels. Will it go up again if i increase carbs.I think it will.

p.s thanks for your input cocobelle

Re: induction carbs dont add up.

There is a diabetic forum here that ya might want to check out. I am a diabetic too and I went on to OWl, and it seems diabetes messes with our weight loss somewhat, I have been on this a little over 6 weeks and just got to my 10 lbs weight loss, only lost 4 on induction and when I moved to OWL I lost the other 6. I am now own the nut rung/berries tho I havnt tried any berries yet. I still try to keep my carbs under thirty, but if I go over it I dont worry too much.
Check out the diabetes forum, they will help you alot!!
                  Good luck!
