  • Slow Weight Loss?

Hello.... I am on my 21st day of induction, and have only lost 4 kgs or 9 lbs. I think this amount is too low, because with most diets, they say 1 kg or 2 lbs per week is the right amount to lose, and I think this diet is quite extreme (?) I was expecting/hoping to lose 2 kgs or 4.5 lbs per week, which would mean I'd now be 6 kgs or 13 lbs lighter.

I have been using FitDay, and many days have been the perfect combination of 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs, but some have also been too high in fat, too low in protein..... and some too high in protein, too low in fat. The highest carbs I've ever reached is 4%.

If you agree my weight loss sounds rather low/slow, maybe I should post some of my past menus in the right forum.

I certainly look a lot slimmer and feel a lot slimmer, but I want to lose as much as I can within the next 3 weeks, as my daughter is getting married and I have to walk her down the aisle. That's the reason I've stayed on induction for 3 weeks. Do you think if I move on from induction, my weight loss will be even slower?

    Thanks for any comments

(not sure if I should have posted this in the Extended Induction forum...)

    Re: Slow Weight Loss?

I have been losing approx 10 lbs a month so 9 lbs in 3 weeks is really good. Takeing it's time is better anyway so your body can bounce back more easily.

        Re: Slow Weight Loss?

Thankyou for your encouraging words! I want to lose weight quicker than that, though. Any ideas re food to lose weight quicker?

I do exercise (i.e. fast walks and sprints) nearly every day. I've drank a lot of water every day except for a couple of days.

I noticed in another thread that 1200 calories is the minimum to eat every day, and a couple of days, I have eaten quite a bit less (in the 900's). So is there any food better than others for quickest weight loss? I won't care so much about the speed of losing after my daughter's wedding!!

Thanku to anyone who can help.

          Re: Slow Weight Loss?

Every person loses weight at different speeds I am myself a very slow loser but, either way I am losing weight and getting thinner all the time. no matter how fast or slow you lose it's how you look in the end not how fast or slow you lost it. You are a winner either way!!!

sorry, I couldn't help that joke lol

I agree with Sarah that everyone loses differently, so it would be hard to say what works best for you. There's heaps of good information all over this board as everyone shares their experiences and ups and downs. You're doing so well, honestly!

You should still be proud of yourself. 9 pounds in 3 weeks....sweeet! Good for you, great going! Never fear, it'll still keep coming off, just when you think it won't whooooshie....the whooshie fairy appears and your scales moves down. Don't sweat it. It took awhile to put it on, it's only normal it'll take a while to take it off. We're all here rooting for you though! Good job again.

Hi aussie girl, i am from australia also. Would be nice to talk if your free and maybe be atkins buddies. Anyway food for thought. I have been doing atkins for nearly 5 weeks and have lost 8 kilos, also was dissapointed with the loss seems slow too me, even with having over 35 kilos to lose.

Well done on your weight loss anyway, by most of the readings here seems to be well worth the weight!

Take care and let me know if you want an aussie atkins buddy!

Hi kat - my real name starts with kat too It's a little difficult always converting kgs into lbs and grams into ounces, so it's nice to see someone else from Aussie who understands these things

Your weight loss is FANTASTIC!! 5 weeks - 8 kgs, and me, 3 weeks - 4.5 kgs. Mmm, bit of a difference there - I'll take what you're eating thanks!

I don't exercise a great deal - probably 5 days a week at the most, and then it's only walking extremely fast and some running. I drink heaps of water (especially in THIS weather!!). And most days, my food is what FitDay recommends of 65% fat, 30% protein and 5% carbs. Some days don't turn out THAT well, but plenty do, so I'm glad of that.

I wonder why you're losing much more than me? Hope you let me in on your secrets lol

I'm in Adelaide, South Australia - whereabouts are you?

It's after 11 p.m. here and I have to head for bed. Very tired since being on the diet, but have bursts of energy sometimes, usually when I'm out of the house and walking like mad! If not exercising, I'm almost always tired. So I will head for bed now, and you can write here (if you're allowed) or by email - if you click on my name, you should see my email address, I think.

Well, goodnight for now.... thanks for writing.... ciao

Don't sweat it. As you stated, you feel and look slimmer, so losing inches is just as good as losing the weight! You've really done great, and you can't help what your body wants to do. You should definitely take measurements and track that as well.

If you want to post your daily menus or send a link to your fitday, then we can check to see if there's anything you can change up. I think you're on the right track though! great job!

                      Re: Slow Weight Loss?

Hi and thanks higgies - I am not too happy this morning because I may have gained weight. My bathroom scales broke last week (no, not from me standing on them!), and Mum leant me hers. Hers is not digital, my old one was. Then yesterday, I bought another one, digital.

Today, my new scales say I have gained weight and am 173 lbs (weight gain of 2 lbs). Mum's scales say I am 167 lbs (weight loss of 4 lbs) Which should I believe?????

I think most members here would say not to worry what the scales say, but I am getting fed up. Thinking I am gaining despite eating such limited variety of food (23rd day on induction because I want major weight loss for my daughter's wedding), I am so very, very tempted right now to have one day of eating everything I want, which would be cereal and milk, a sandwich, maybe even chocolate.

Sure, I will give you a link to Fitday - do I have to click on the words there that say Make My Journal Public? or is there another way to make a link for you?

Thankyou. It's 11 a.m. Saturday and I am dying for breakfast, but holding off the cereal (or usual bacon) till I know for sure if I am going to go ahead with the anti-diet day today.

                        Re: Slow Weight Loss?

Hi AussieGal. I guess my first question would be, do you think that going all out with cereal and milk and sandwich and chocolate is going to make you lose weight faster than you are?? I mean, if I ate that, I would feel disappointed in myself for keeping me further away from reaching my goal weight than I would happy that I ate it, but in the end it's your body and your decision.

About losing faster - the person from Australia who has lost 8kg in 5 weeks... and you've lost 4.5kg in 3 weeks.. so in 5 weeks (if weight loss were linear) you will have lost 7.5kg.

Did you take your measurements? I mean, we all end up losing more inches than we do pounds, and I would rather be a 150lb size 8 than a 150lb size 12!

About the scale - is it near TOM? Did you eat something very salty? When you weighed with your mom's scale was it the same readings as your old scale? Is the new one in the same spot as the old one (I can gain/lose 5lbs depending where my scale is in my bathroom)?

About the food - you don't lose less weight because you go on OWL. I started losing weight again by upping the number of carbs that I was eating. Being in ketosis makes you burn it off, meaning, if you're eating 20g carbs, and in ketosis, or eating 40g carbs and in ketosis, you should technically still be burning off the same amount of weight (assuming all other aspects/allergies/calories/etc are the same). If you're unhappy with the "limited" options available, perhaps try expanding your base of food, I mean, I could stay on induction for really a long time and not get bored... have you been to Linda's Low Carb website to see some recipes that are really yummy??

I think Higgies is gone for the weekend, but if you want to post the link, I'll look at your menu. Oh. And the water. IMPORTANT, not *some* days to drink it all, *every day* to drink it all. If you go with that it's 64oz + 8oz for every 25lbs, you should be drinking about 80oz/day minimum for water.

                          Re: Slow Weight Loss?

Thanks for writng, Lyssie. For breakfast, I've had coffee and cream so far, trying to decide what to do today re food - so far, so good (still on Atkins).

Of course I know eating the food I want today, I will put on weight. I was just disappointed in the possible weight gain today, and thought what the h*ck, eat those foods you have been missing! Yes, I would be disappointed tomorrow, but may feel better today. I've had extreme tiredness since being on the diet, and maybe that cereal would give me energy, for just one day.

I regret not taking my measurements I can see where the fat has gone though - most definitely my tummy, face, arms, legs, bum - well, everywhere I guess!! I am happiest re the tummy loss!

It's not TOM. Ate nothing salty except the bacon I have every morning tastes salty - but that's every morning, not just yesterday.

Mum's scale reading was excellent, as the last day on my old ones, I was 78.8 kgs, and three days later on hers for the first time, it said 77 kgs. Now today, her scales say 76, yet my new scales say 78.6 kgs. They are in the same place in my bedroom, and I always wear the same clothes when I weigh myself.

I will have to visit Linda's website for variety - thanks for that.

I will go to FitDay and click on Make My Journal Public, if that is the way for you to see it?

Thanku for all your advice Lyssie

                            Re: Slow Weight Loss?

I believe with Fitday, making it public will let others see it.

With the food thing, I know how it is to want something, and feel like it doesn't matter since the scale isn't going down anyway. But then you end up wondering how you'll feel if it goes up like, 4 pounds the next day... at least I do. If you feel like you don't have energy, I would add some carbs back in (from veggies), and move up to Rung 1 of OWL which gives you the 25g per day of carbs (which I would use pretty much most of) and see if that helped with your energy a little bit. Are you taking vitamins??

I think that if you can see the loss that it doesn't matter so much what the scale says. I mean, I wore size 14s at like, 150lbs before, and wore them this time around at 205lbs. That's a 55lb difference wearing the same size clothes. Does that mean that I looked like I weighed more the second time?? I don't think so...

I think that your scales may just be different and if you have the new one that you're going to use from now on, that you should probably go with that number and try to forget about the other ones. Unless you're going to keep your mom's scale and give her your new one. The numbers on either scale will go down from what they are now. That's what you need to remember. Different scales say different things. I get that digitals are all supposed to say the same thing, but that doesn't mean they actually do.

Yes, I have a lot of vitamins and minerals - one is a multi-vitamin, and the rest are individual things like selenium, fish oil, vitamin C etc. etc.

Yes, I will only use my scales from now on, so will have to alter my ticker down there to increase I know the new scales will show weight loss too, but it looks like I have gained, when who knows what my old scales would be showing if they still worked??

                              Thanku again
