  • Gaining?

I just need some good advice regarding my situation. I have been doing strict induction for 9 days now, lost 4.5 pounds sofar . I am super motivated and have exercised (Tae-Bo) for 7 out of the 9 days which I am very proud of - AND I have enjoyed it. I started getting a sore throut yesterday and took soem adco sinal tablets for it. I upped my water intake and still exercised yesterday.

This morning I gained 2.2 pounds back !!!!! I did eat a little less salad veggies on the 7th & 8 th day, but why did I gain. Could it be that I ate too little salad veggies or do you think it has to do with the slight cold I have?

I am super motivated and just want to stay that way - I am literally hoding on by a thread and do NOT want to go backwards - I can do anything and be 100% ASLONG as I do not gain (or if I do I atleast need a believable reason - like TOM).

Any suggestions as to how to get through this cold and NOT gain, every pound lost makes me stronger and the opposite also applies. I have lost inches also, so I know I am losing, but GAINING !!!!! You all will know how I feel - please I need some motivation - I do not want to fall off this great way of eating & my great exercise plan.

    Back away from the scale.

The scale is NOT your friend. It's best that you don't weigh until the end of the first 14 days. Especially if you are going to lay so much emotional attachment to what it says.

I personally weigh every single day, and have from the beginning. I've seen the scale go up and down all the time. It goes UP and it goes DOWN, but over a year it has gone down on a regular basis.

There is NO WAY you gained 2 lbs of fat overnight unless you ate 7000 calories yesterday. So, it's water weight. Your body does not understand what's going on and it's going to have ups and downs as it adjusts to your weight loss.

Take your measurements and pictures if you have not already done so. They'll give you a better picture of your weight loss than the scale will.

I kind of look at it like this, you've been eating bad for so long, then your start this plan. Well our bodies are not machines, however, they do recognize when we're giving wholesome foods to it. You lose weight, then maybe a slight pause, it's just your body adjusting and saying, are you gonna stick with it, because I can really get used to this? Don't worry so much about the scales. My sister is having the same issue. I went to her house and took the batteries out of her scale. (haha) She called me 2 days ago and said, my stupid scale is broke....I said, no it's not....I got the bullets haha! I told her I'd put them back in this weekend. So far, she's adjusting to the idea. Don't let the scale rule your emotions. You keep eating this way, the weight and inches will come off.

Hope that helps. Have a great afternoon!

Thanks for the replies so far! I agree that the scale is such a monster - why can't we just all throw it out (Yeah right!)
I did up my water intake even more yesterday aswell as my "green tea" (which really helps me when I have the flu). So I feel better today, I could not exercise yesterday - sniffles too bad - and I really wanted to exercise again today, but I don't think that I will have enough "strength" to go through the 1 hour workout. If not - I will take it easy today so that hopefully I will be strong enough again tomorrow. I did look at the scale again this morning - down 1 pound (think the extra water worked).

Funny enough - I ate some "whoosie pie" the night before and the next morning I had my gain????? What a let down - I really hoped that the whoosie pie would speed things along - now I am scared to make it again. Any thoughts????

Hiya! Don't stress about what the scales say. Scales are real monsters... the tape measure is your best friend!

              Re: Gaining?

That weight gain most likely would have happened whether you ate whooshie pie or not. Seriously, weigh once a week...that's it. OR, if you want to weigh every day, pick one day a week that it "Counts", that you get to write it down. If the once a week weight is going up from the week before .... THAT is when you need to reassess. Note: I didn't say freak out, but RE-ASSESS the situation.

                Re: Gaining?

Thanks for all your reply's. I cannot say that I will not worry about the scale anymore (just being honest), but I will only weigh once a week and hopefully have a surprise most of the weeks. I am proud that I did not freak out (too much) and that I found the strength to push through, truelly making Atkins a way of life (like it is suppose to be).

I will continue to up my water intake untill the end of my 14 days and I even managed to exercise yesterday (even though I still suffer slightly from the flu). I did not do a full 1 hr, but managed a strong 40 minutes. VERY PROUD of myself for being able to do that.

Anyway, thanks again for helping me through this and I will take your advice as to not freak out next time.
