  • Continuing on Induction

Hi All, Tomorrow is day 14 for me on Induction.
I've been very straight with what I was aloud to eat, keeping track using Fitday etc. So far I've lost 6 pounds. I wish it were more but 6 is ok and I'm just going to continue on.
My husband joined me about a week after I started and he has lost weight too.
Men seem to loose so much faster tho but he needs to loose about 50 pounds.
Anyway, both of use are doing great.
I like the recipes on Lindas website.
Are there any things I should know about going into week 3 of induction?
    Any ideas?
I am exercising but I'm a Massage Therapist and a very busy one so believe me doing bodywork is hard so I get my exercise.
Thanks for all your support so far. It's been so helpful for me.

Way to go! 6 POUNDS GONE! What a victory! When my loss was slow...as it is right now, I had to keep remembering a quote on someone's post here on the site that said this...."Crawling STILL gets you there!" My advice is just keep doing what your doing. Sounds like you are making progress and do what you can to make exercise a part of your life....FOREVER! Go at it slow and build up as you go. It is an investment in yourself you won't regret.
"Thin is Possible!" formerly known as "Is Thin Possible?" Atkins made a believer outta me!

    SW/295.5 on 2/2004
    LW/164 reached on 9/2005
Gained back 22 pounds in last year
    Restarted on 3/10/07 @ 186
    CW/179

Gained back 22 pounds and dealing with it...instead of it dealing with me!!

    Exercise mileage starting 3/01/07: 200
(bike riding 10 miles per day or walking 5 miles)

Good job! Don't be afraid of OWL, it's the best. You have more variety in veggies, and you are only adding 5 carbs, I did the same thing you did, extended induction, but I ended up getting a little bored, I lost the majority of my weight on OWL. Give her a shot!

But excellent job none the less! Good for you!

When I do Fitday I look at the fiber I've eaten and it seems to always bring my carbs down even more somewhere between 15 and 20 so maybe I'll do just that.
Eat vegetables of some sort with every meal.
Yesterday I had raw spinach, and romaine, then sauteed red pepper, onion and steak, also Cabbage with Corned beef which has too much salt in it but I did eat allot of vegetables and when looking at fitday it still was 21 not counting the fiber. So it seems I can eat more. I'm just afraid ya know.
I'll experiment a little more and see what happens.
I so neverrrrr want to go back to eating the way I was. It was killing my health.
My Blood Pressure seems to be a little better stable. Even with the meds it was 185/120. Now it's running 150/90-100 so it deffinately is getting better and I feel better.

Week three of induction is extended induction. When you add extra veggies and 5g carbs then you've moved to OWL. If you're staying on extended induction for a while longer, then the same induction rules apply still.

One tip... it's a personal choice, but don't leave OWL til too late. You need some time to progress through the rungs and to find your CCLL. Many people think you don't lose in OWL... nothing could be further from the truth, particularly on rung one, where often weight loss speeds up!

but don't leave OWL til too late. I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN BY THAT.

You need some time to progress through the rungs and to find your CCLL. WHAT IS CCLL AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN PROGRESS THROUGH THE RUNGS. I TAKE IT YOU MEAN THE PHASES?

Many people think you don't lose in OWL... nothing could be further from the truth, particularly on rung one, where often weight loss speeds up!WHAT IS RUNG ONE?
            IS THAT OWL OR INDUCTION?
            THANKS,

              Re: Continuing on Induction

              Today I did:
              Cal 1509
              Fat 123
              Carbs 29
              protein 76
              fiber 10
              74%fat, 5% carbs, 20% protein.
I can see my fat is too high today and protein too low.
I've been keeping with 65, 5, 30 but today is off a bit.
Can you tell me based on continuing induction are the carbs ok?
              thanks,

The different rungs of OWL (ongoing weight loss) are the different phases. In each phase or rung you add a new food type such as extra veggies, dairy, berries, starchy veggies, grains, alcohol... If you go to the OWL forum and read the stickies you'll get more in depth details about the rungs. On each rung you add your carbs in bouts of 5g...
In pre-maintenance you do the same, adding carbs in 10g bouts.
Your CCLL is your Critical Carbohydrate Level for Losing... i.e. the amount of carbs you can eat and still lose weight. Your CCLM is your Critical Carb Level for Maintaining... the amount of carbs you can eat and maintain. These are what you try to find in OWL and pre-maintenance, as well as finding out how various foods affect you. This is why you need to spend some time in these phases and shouldn't leave it until you are too close to your goal.

Atkins is a complex diet and goes beyond induction (which at 2 weeks is often the shortest phase of the diet... unless you extend it), though many people make the mistake of only doing induction and then going back to eating high carb. My strong advice would be that you get hold of a copy of DANDR (Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution) 2002 edition. This board goes by that edition as it was the last one that Dr A wrote entirely, before he died.
Understanding the science behind this way of eating is fundamental for success, and you'll find that everything becomes clear on reading the book.

                Hope this helps.
