Re: How long can someone stay on induction?
I stayed on induction for over a year as I was quite happy with the food choices and had over 140 pounds to lose.
The problem some people have with staying on induction for a long time is that they start to feel restricted by the list of allowed foods and the limits on cheese and cream so they start to stray fromt he allowed foods list, feel guilty and decide to give up completely!!
Dr Atkins tells us to lose our last 5-10 pounds of weight very slowly on the premaintenance stage, after following the OWL rules and finding our CCLL, so make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to conduct the OWL experiment before that.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I too did maintenance for a long time... like about five months. If you don't feel deprived and are still a long way from goal, then by all means do extended induction without any fears...but as Elizellen says, you need to move to OWL in good time when goal comes into sight. It takes time to move up the rungs and find your CCLL and CCLM... also to see how different foods affect you. Before and after:

How much did you lose in that year of induction? Do you feel you lost faster on induction?

Re: How long can someone stay on induction?
I lost about 60 pounds during the first year, which was an average of a pound and a bit per week, and about another 40 pounds in the next 6 months still on induction, then moved to OWL. I then lost about 40 pounds in the next year and 7 months, eventually reaching my initial stated goal weight after a total time of 3 years one month.Originally posted by Tracie515How much did you lose in that year of induction? However on getting down within 10 pounds of that number I saw I still had lots of fat so lowered my goal to 130 pounds.
I have stayed hovering a few pounds up and down around 140 pounds for about a year now but my body fat is shrinking, so I am not worried about the scale numbers at present. If I ever reach 130 pounds I will be happy but if not - so be it!
My real goal is to have much less of a 'pouch' and firm up my sharpei wrinkles on bottom and thighs, and maybe lose my flabby chicken wings, which is a goal I am very slowly moving towards by doing weights at the gym.
As for whether I lost faster on induction, I suppose I did, but not in large amounts like some members report. An average of a pound and a bit a week is not very fast.
But I never set myself any time/weightlost goals - mine were more about things I could control like how much water I drank, how long I could stick to the rules, how much exercise etc.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: How long can someone stay on induction?
Next month I'll be on Atkins 3 years...I've basically stayed at Induction level carbs since day 1. I eat 25-30 carbs a day...mostly salads & veggies. I have added some low carb/low sugar yogurt & occasionally some nuts."IF You Do What You Always Did...You'll Get What You Always Got!" - Dr. Phil McGraw

Re: How long can someone stay on induction?
I stayed on induction throughout the majority of my weight loss. It did not affect me negatively at all. Where I messed up was when it was time to slow it down and move throught the phases accordingly. I advise to do that."Thin is Possible!" formerly known as "Is Thin Possible?" Atkins made a believer outta me!

I too stayed on induction for about 6 months. I return to induction for a week or so if I've had a "bad" day.Higgies
