  • found a really good bacon with no added sugar

it is really good bacon and it has no sugar of any kind...it is Gwaltney they have some regular cured also but sugars added to it...sadly it does still have the nitrates...but I have found none without those...oh and they sell it at walmart supercenters down here in Oklahoma

also I heard Oscar Mayer hotdogs have now made some hot dogs with no nitrates or sugars...can anyone verify this?

    Hi, Gentlerain!

I had 1 of these for dinner tonight. I'll give you the info from the package:

This is what the front of the package says:
Oscar Mayer Smoked Uncured Beef Franks
    No Nitrate or Nitrite Added
    Natural

From the back of the package:

    Nutrition Facts:
    Serving Size 1 link
    Servings per Container 6

    Calories: 160
    Total Fat 14g
    Saturated Fat 6g
    Trans Fat 0.5 g
    Cholesterol: 35mg
    Sodium 440 mg
    Total Carbohydrate 1g
    Dietary Fiber 0g
    Sugars <1g
    Protein 7g

Ingredients: Beef, Water, Contains Less Than 2% of Sea Salt, Potassium Lactate (From Corn), Evaporated Cane Juice, Celery Powder, Flavor, Lactic Acid Starter Culture.

I only eat these very occasionally. There's a lot of sodium, and there is the Evaporated Cane Juice... I'm assuming that's where the <1g of sugar comes from. There's also that Potassium Lactate. Have no idea what in the heck that is, but I'm not crazy about the idea that it comes from corn.

So, I occasionally eat these when I need something in a hurry. I think they taste really, really good and they are quite juicy. I wish they were totally sugar free. I found them at Walmart and paid about $3.00 for a package of six.

    Has anybody else had these?

I don't know about the hotdogs, but Valleydale also has bacon without sugar, although it does have nitrates.

            You're welcome!

I think the sugar comes from the Evaporated Cane Juice (I live in Louisiana... we grow a lot of sugar cane in this state and I think that is what they are referring to). It doesn't sound like there's much in it, but I don't understand why something that is uncured needs to have any sugar at all.
And, I don't know what in the world the Potassium Lactate from corn is . They do taste so much better than regular hot dogs, to me. Hopefully you can find them eventually; they are a good occasional treat.
