  • D-day

So today is day 14. I lost 3 lbs during the first week and NOTHING during the second. That's not very motivating.

My mom also sent me an easter basket with all these gourmet chocolates. Finding out that I didn't lose anything last week is making those chocolates look REALLY REALLY GOOD.

I know that 3lbs is good for a week, heck it's probably even "okay" for two weeks, but I haven't lost any inches and everything still fits the same so I'm thinking I lost 3lbs of water weight. I track my food on fit day and I post my menus for review. I'm on track with everything. I even exercise 4 days a week, minimum of walking on the treadmill for half an hour (Usually with another half hour of elliptical or weight training).

I'm starting to think atkins isn't for me.

Sounds to me like you are doing fine, some of us just have a slower metabolism than others, I have been on this WOE 3 months and have only lost about 17 lbs. Just stick to your guns, it will happen for you!!
    Good luck!!

      Re: D-day

Really, when you think about it, 3 lbs is still a loss...saying "it's just water weight" really diminishes your success and accomplishment and is self defeating. That 3lbs is 3lbs less than you were carrying around before. You're losing, which means you're succeeding!

One has to remember that there really is no such thing as miracle diet where you go to bed one night and wake up the next at your goal weight. It takes a lot of work and dedication, which means sticking with it through the ups and downs. I'm reminded of the case study in Dr. Atkins' book with the woman who was (for metabolic resistance reasons) forced to stay at 20g of carbs for 2 years to lose just over 100 lbs and reach her goal weight...I'd be willing to bet she looks back and realizes the hard work was worth it.

When someone says that they think Atkins isn't for them, I have to ask them about their dieting history...especially when they have succeeded on induction no matter how small the weight loss number. I usually find that people who have survived the two week induction usually didn't make it half that far on other more commercially endorsed diet plans and gained more than they lost in the process. Here you are, followed a plan successfully for 2 weeks and have lost weight...the very definition of success.

That being said...losing 3 lbs is great and perhaps it's time to move into OWL? A lot of people find that moving on boosts weight loss...that would be my suggestion to you. Rather than being discouraged, raise the proverbial standard, declare war on fat and unhealthy eating habits and take back your life by continuing down the Atkins path. Read up on OWL, have your daily menu analyzed on the "review my menu" board to make sure there have been no inadvertent slip ups...and just stick with it and you'll succeed!

(You'll have to forgive my wordiness...I'm writing a historiography paper and I tend to get long winded when I'm in writing mode rofl)

      Best of luck!
