  • Using the Ketone strips

Is there anyone else out there that is loosing weight but not showing ketones with the strips? I've been on induction a week and still have not reached a shade of purple. But I've lost 3 pounds. Is this still acceptable?

I would say that was great!!

I never saw a change in the colour of those pesky strips so never bothered to buy any more when I used the last in the jar.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

So...just because they don't change color doesn't mean you're doing something wrong? That's reassuring! I'm entering my 5th week, lost 15 lbs and can't get those blasted strips to change color. Even with the weight loss, I was getting frustrated...I think I'll just go ahead and throw them away. <G>

        Re: Using the Ketone strips

The strips measure excess ketones in your urine. Ketones can be used by our bodies as an energy source. So if you make 10 ketones from fat burning, and your body uses all 10 for energy needs, those strips won't show anything.

Also there are 3 ketone bodies. The strips only measure 1 type of ketone body. That ketone, aceto acetic acid, comprises about 15-20% of the ketones we produce. In other words, the ketosticks only measure the excess of 15-20% of the ketones we produce. If those were the odds for a horse-race, I wouldn't be placing any bets....

Thanks for saving me some $$$'s. I was going to buy some of those sticks on Thursday. I was thinking they might provide some encouragement during the evil plateau's that everyone goes through. Instead I'm thinking they will just frustrate me.
