  • Oh, the cravings!

I thought this was supposed to get easier?!?!?!?

I haven't cheated. Geez, I have certainly wanted to cheat. But fitting into my jeans that I haven't worn in oh say 2+ years, well that's incentive enough to stay on track.

I'm trying to get my mind off of whatever it is I'm craving, but good grief. And whoever said "Give it 15 minutes, drink water, it'll go away..." I have one thing to say: pfffffft. The same things have been calling to me all weekend!!!!

I just needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

Please post something encouraging for me and anyone else who is having killer cravings.

    Re: Oh, the cravings!

Awww sorry your having bad cravings.

'Touch wood' so far I haven't had this prob. I've seen from advice on this board though and that says to go eat something fatty! More satisfying definitley and may help with the cravings.
There are some great recipes on site for desserts if it's sweet stuff you crave? If it's savoury....do you like pork scratchings? Salami slices (nuked in microwave!) mmmm they are fab to nibble on!
And yeah....the olde water tale lol...drink n drink the stuff. Have it in your head it's a magic elixir! The more you drink the more pounds you shed, the less you want to go eat something you shouldn't!

Hope you find something to help <{;0)

Be careful of those sugar free jelly beans, even if they are made with splenda. Just find other substitutes. You need to eat something high in fat. Throw a Pork Chop in the skillet, or better yet

Can of pumpkin, 2 oz cream cheese, 2 packets splenda, cinnamon or allspice or pumpkin pie spice, whip it up, 3 servings....2 -3 carbs.... = heaven!!

Try it, it works. The cravings will lessen each day as it goes on!

I hear you on the jelly beans.. I won't open them.. Cause if I do I will probably eat the whole pack. I don't have control over them...

I printed the pumpkin recipe out.. I did take a little cream cheese and a pack of splenda and melted it in the microwave a few seconds..and that helps cravings sometimes..It gives me that creamy taste

              Re: Oh, the cravings!

It does get less difficult, but there are days when it's not easy and I'm tempted. I wouldn't call it cravings, but definetely temptation. It will probably always be there to an extent.
I glance down and look at my big ol' thighs, right where I'm sitting. That crushes any thoughts of cheating for me, as that's just where the sugar/carbage is going to end up. Filling up on good, legal food also helps, so I don't have to deal with hunger on top of it.
I am determined to reach my goal, so I just keep doing it, day after day. The days turn into weeks, the weeks turn into months.

                Re: Oh, the cravings!

Juli, one thing to ask yourself--

Are the cravings situational or caused by something you ate?

If they're situational, i.e. because someone is eating chocolate, or you see a pizza commercial, take a walk, drink some water, eat something high-fat. DON'T ever feed your cravings (like if you have a craving for chocolate, it is not wise to eat SF chocolate to "get rid of" the cravings. This usually makes them worse!)

A craving is different from actual hunger. It is mental and emotional, rather than a physical need for food.

If your craving comes "out of the blue" with no outside triggers, check your menu from the past couple of days. Have you introduced a new food? Used more sweeteners than usual? Used different spices? Are you still in ketosis? If you introduce a new food/sweetener/spice/herb/etc. and it causes cravings, it's best to eliminate it from your diet. If you have gone above your CCLL and are knocked out of ketosis, appetite supression disappears and often cravings can return.

It might not be any of these things, but it's always good to have the information so you can make wise decisions!

                  Re: Oh, the cravings!

                  i get cravings...boy do i get cravings...

i put a sign on my refrigerator..it says "want a snack? drink a glass of water and walk for 30 minutes, THEN you can have a snack"....

i was surprised in doing that, and actually drinking and walking has curbed this for me..by the time i get back from a walk, i am usually not thinking about food.....

another thing that helps me is having some protein when i have a bad craving, especially one that wont go away....

good luck, and i bet those jeans look great...

                    On cravings:

You know, I've found that when I get home from work, my first instinct is to EAT! I end up nibbling before dinner, and always on the wrong foods. It's been that way my whole life. This week I'm working on things to keep myself busy during that odd time. Like Julie said...I'm trying to avoid the situation...or at leaste be aware of the triggers.

BTW-- Dr. A recommended chromium for cravings, if you're into supplements.

Bad bad bad bad bad cravings here too. And I can guarantee it's coming from being on an emotional roller coaster for the last several days.

This morning I was ready to say **** it and give up. But I didn't...

                        Re: Oh, the cravings!

The first thing I usually do when a killer craving hits is ask myself if I am 'really' hungry or just obsessed about the food I want. If it's a little of both, I make myself a filling protien shake (1 scoop LC Vanilla Whey, 1 scoop SF orange Metamucil, 1 T cream, 10-16 oz water, blend). Between the protien of the whey, the fiber, and the water, I'm stuffed.

During the day, if I'm still obsessed, I go outside, turn on some music, and start digging (really tough physical) in the yard/garden. After awhile I totally forget about my obsession and feel great about what I accomplish outside.

If it's at night, I'll turn on the tunes and start heavy cleaning, hand scrub the bathroom, etc. Anything to turn my focus away from food.

                        Good luck

I'd ditto what Juli said... it could be situational or something you ate. Be very careful to check the ingredients in anything you eat... hidden sugars could be playing havoc with your blood sugar.

                            Re: Oh, the cravings!

As per Julie's advice, I analyzed my menu.

I'm still doing Induction, simply because I am not going to the grocery store until this coming Friday and don't currently have any nuts/seeds, etc for OWL. That being said, the only difference in my diet over the past 3 days or so is my choice of 1 cup of veggies other than lettuce.

I think the jicama is throwing me for a loop. The cravings started when I started adding it, whereas I had been doing either a cup of broccoli or spinach with my morning eggs.

That is the only modification. I will exclude jicama for a while and see if the cravings subside.

                            Thanks for the advice all.

Good thinking! Often it's something quite surprising that causes the cravings. Will be interested to know if taking out the jicama makes a difference.
