  • So How do you reward yourself for all the hard work?

I purchased a cute little dress by Sag Harbor in a size 14...that's along way for size 22..when I started. I have to unload some more belly fat but I should be in it in a month. I try it on every week to see my progress. Plus..everytime I go to the closet I see it and it reminds me of my success. What do you guys do to stay motivated?

    1. I look in the mirror and then at the old pictures.

    2. I remind myself that my dress uniforms made in 1977 have now been taken in to the size when they were first made, and they fit loosely.

    3. I try on a pair of close fitting trousers bought in 1978 that I never threw out - they were expensive trousers and are almost respectable, even on a man of my age.

    4. I gloat about by low blood pressure, low pulse and excellent blood chemistry; and I laugh at how long I stand to take to take my 32 year British Army pension when I finally retire aged 60.

Yes... I do the "mirror reminder" reward all the time!!
I also bought myself a new car radio... but not sure if that was really a "maintaining" reward or not... anyway, it's a good excuse for a little indulgence, especially after a long time of economising. Awesome sound! My car wants to dance!

Re: So How do you reward yourself for all the hard work?

I like those pictures of folk in their old jeans, holding them up and out. Some amazing sights to be seen. I have reduced from a 44in waist to a 38 (and I should be 36 or less), so the effect would not be a dramatic as with someone who has lost over 100lb.

Anyone want to post or link to some good examples?

my rewards may seem a little strange, but here we go....

for my first 20 pounds, i have treated myself to microdermabrasion on my face...every 10 i loose, i can have another session, up to 6....and when i get to 10 pounds within my goal weight, i am having my hands done...

when i reach my goal weight, i am getting some collagen, and when i have maintained my goal weight for 6 months, it is a tummy tuck.....

i know i seem odd to most people, but it is all about what we want for working so hard and what makes each of us feel better about ourselves, in my opinion..my friends think i am just a spoiled housewife, but i really am working hard for this, and i feel like i deserve it.....

My rewards have been a couple shopping "sprees" (yeah, a real spree, I think I spent about $50 each time ), I ordered whatever I wanted from The Body Shop (that was about $200!), and my boyfriend just bought me an iPod! My next mini-reward will be when I get into the 180s...and I haven't decided what to get yet.

I had a bit to get off at the start of the year...I rewarded myself with manicures, iPod downloads, a new crown, a foot massage...and a trip to Europe. That is actually my (new) goal gift! I'd better get there because I've already bought my ticket!

Re: So How do you reward yourself for all the hard work?

My reward right now is that I will look GREAT when getting on the plane to Australia. The people I grew up with and didn’t care for will see me and be like OH WOW, the best revenge is looking great. I grew up an ugly kid and no one thought would really amount to anything, but here I am living in America with a very successful design business and I just brought myself a BMW 525i in Feb, so I guess that is my reward too.

My next reward will be to get a new whole new wardrobe, I have not brought myself any nice new clothes in awhile and it looks pretty sad. I refuse to buy anymore fat clothes if i get any they have to be cute thin clothes. So untill then its rags for now. So even more reason to stick with it...

Re: So How do you reward yourself for all the hard work?

I set up a series of mini-goals and rewards. The rewards were jewelry, hair-cuts, and of course, new clothing! But I also set a midi-goal---my mid point goal. That was a bicycle. I put aside money every month for it. Granted, I goofed because I reached the mid point, before I had saved enough money, but I still rewarded myself with a bike.

Other people have done pounds or inches jars: dump a certain amount of cash for each pound/inch lost and the money goes to some big reward item (new wardrobe, exercise equipment, a weekend spa trip, etc.)

Since I have been from a size 4 to a size 14 (!!) in the last three years I reward myself by trying on the next size smaller. It is such a great feeling when pants slide on that used to barely fit or that I couldn't button. I have each of my old sizes in rubbermaid tubs. It is exciting to think about the next tub -- like getting a new wardrobe.

The first time I did Atkins I rewarded myself with jewelry. Some of my old rings don't fit anymore, so I am excited about getting small enough to wear them again, too!
