  • do i restart?

hi....i am not sure this is the right place, but i posted it here anyway...

i am at almost 4 weeks (saturday) and have been on induction..the problem is not that i am cheating, but that i cant eat..i have some ungodly stress right now, and i just cant put that food in my mouth, or drink my water, so obviously i am stalled out..i know i am killing all the work i have already done..i have kept the weight off, and am still at 20 pounds lost..the thing is, i know when i start to eat again, it is going to sink like a lead weight..i wanted to move to OWL this weekend, but i am not sure i should, until i can do another full 2 weeks on induction to restart everything i have undone, and work on this problem...any suggestions? (please dont chastise me for not eating, that is not why i am here..thanks..)

i am ready for the wet noodle julie....

    No chastizing!

You are still holding that 20lbs off right? So it's ok. Think of it as a small break. Do you think you can start with easy light foods? Like maybe some veggies and go from there?

      No noodle necessary...

By all means, move to OWL! Induction need only be done for 2 weeks. OWL will give you more food choices, more variety, and will prevent boredom with foods! I LOVE OWL! I wish I'd moved sooner. Check out DANDR, re-read the chapters about OWL, and check out the stickies in the FAQ forum about OWL.

The first rung of OWL is another serving of induction veggies. This can be a serving of "salad" veggies or "other" veggies. I always went for the "other" veggies! Have you checked out linda's site? She's got GREAT low carb stuff that will prevent boredom and make your foods very tasty!

          Re: do i restart?

SP, this could be normal post-induction stall, your body is just taking a breather before continuing weight loss. Or could be starvation mode if you are not eating much, and your body is holding onto what it has.
          I wouldn't re-do induction. I don't think you need to. I'd move into OWL.
I don't think you'll put weight on by eating again, more than likely your body will kick out of starvation mode and start letting some weight go.

I agree with the previous posters: move on to OWL. You've already accomplished 2 weeks of Induction. Maybe the variety offered in OWL will be more appealing to your palate if you're having a hard time eating?

I also agree with Lamby-pie: you could be in starvation mode. It's a double-edged sword, I know. The only way you'll feel better is to eat, but eating makes you feel icky. I had an issue in early Induction about this.

Julie, I agree: Your new pic is great! Very inspirational.

              Re: do i restart?

i desperately fear going over 20 carbs a day will stop my weight loss..i dont know why, i just do....can i move to OWL and still keep it at 20 carbs? i have never gone over 15 as of yet, so 20 is as high as i can go, in my mind...am i making sense? or do i sound nutty?

and as for being in starvation mode, my body is definately there..in 2 days i have had one salad, and only one meal for the 2 days before that..i am working on lunch today, as i think the worst is finally over and my life is slowly returning back to normal..does anyone know what is going to happen to my body? will i still be in ketosis? am i going to gain before i loose? i feel real dumb, but i have never cared about this stuff before and i am not quite sure what happens..i just want to be prepared....sorry for all the questions...

                Re: do i restart?

It makes total sense. During induction, 20g carbs is the LIMIT, not mandatory. So if you're consuming mostly salad veggies, it's rare you'd ever hit 20g daily. During induction, I usually hovered around 15g per day, and it wasn't until Rung 1 of OWL that I actually ate 20g per day.

Surrey, you'll be interested to know that many people actually have a surge in weightloss when they move to OWL, BECAUSE of those few extra carbs, not in spite of them.

                  Re: do i restart?

You make sense. You don't sound nutty.

Truth is, though, the whole point of this is to find out how many carbs you can eat a day without gaining weight. If you dont' go into OWL and gradually increase your carbs, you won't find your limit.

Depending on physical activity/metabolism, some people can eat more than 50.

And if you start to gain weight or stop losing? Just lower your carbs again.

The variety afforded by OWL may actually help you lose more weight.

Julie told me in a post that she has actually lost most of her weight on OWL.

                    Re: do i restart?

Yep, and I'm still losing. I'm all the way up to Rung 9, Whole Grains, and I've gotten as high as 65g per day and still losing. I'm guessing my CCLL is in the 80s or 90s AT LEAST. I lost 25 pounds on induction, but I've lost almost 50 on OWL!
