  • Off on a business trip...need some advice

On Sunday I'm heading to a conference out of the city and will be living in a hotel and eating out till Wednesday.
The conference will be very busy with quick lunches and then lenghty dinners with associates.
I'm not too worried about dinners however it's the lunches.
Last year the only choices we really had were pizza...hot dogs...and some other meal.
I was thinking of getting some groceries as I will have a mini kitchen in my hotel room and bag some lunch to bring with me but that would prove cumbersome considering everything else I need to carry around.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
Walking to a decent restaurant is out of the question at lunch as there is not enough time....
    Hope to hear from you!
    Hugs

I would make ready-to-go salads. I have done this when I needed lunch in a hurry to go. I would measure and package the ingredients in separate little baggies to keep the cheese or bacon from getting soggy for example...then throw them all in one big baggie. You can buy little packets of salad dressing at a restaurant supply store or probably even from a fast food place ahead of time. Then put it in a soft side cooler...not that heavy or cumbersome and far more nutritious than anything else you may get for lunch. Be sure to take some paper plates, napkins and forks too. When you're done eating, there's no little containers to clean up, just throw it all away and stuff the cooler in one of your other bags.

Another alternative might be to eat a large breakfast, then eat a couple hot dogs at lunch, and throw a few snacks into your bag - pepperoni and celery would keep well. Less healthy IMO than the salad, but it would probably work.

Good for you for thinking and planning ahead...that's one of the keys to success!

Great that you will have access to a mini-kitchen. When I went to a conference for a week last year, I took several cans of tuna, salad makings, and a case of water. I also made ahead some meals and had them frozen. When I arrived at the conference, I put them in the frig and all I had to do was heat them in the microwave to eat. Since they were frozen when I left home, and I had them in an ice chest till I arrived....they were in still half fozen when I got there.

Also pack some snacks to carry in your purse/tote in case you need them in a pinch. I took sugar free jello, cheese cubes, pork rinds, and jerky. (get one of those blue ice packs and you can re-freeze it every night in your freezer and just stick it in your bag when you leave the hotel.

Be creative. You can do it. I've travelled a lot since starting this WOE and although it takes some homework, it can be done and is well worth the effort. If you eat out, don't be afraid to ask for foods that are acceptable to your plan. I've never eaten where they wouldn't accomodate me in one way or another. You just tell them that you have special food requirements and could they assist you. BEST WISHES....and have fun!
