  • Didn't cheat...I thought?

    Hello all,

So far I THOUGHT I had been following the guide lines of the induction phase to a T.

Obviously after weighing myself, Im wrong.

I started out at 243 about a month ago. As I sit Im 219! Im happy about the overall loss, but my weekly progress has gone in reverse.

I weighed in last friday, and was 214. I weighed in today (I know, a day early, but I couldn't wait!) and I was 219. I know that sometimes the weight will fluctuate, but this bad? I wouldn't have minded adding a 1-2 pounds from last week, or my weight staying dormant, but to gain 5 back, seems like I might have went off the diet accidently?

The biggest change I have done in my diet, is for snacks I had been getting some Beef jerky to snack on, and my lunchs have stayed pretty close to normal, with cheese burgers without the buns. I did have Hooters wings on Saturday, but I don't think that threw me off that bad, the hot sauce has no carbs, and the chicken wings had no bread. Give me your insight, I would greatly appriciate it.

Thank you for the advice, and the warning on the weight fluctuation...beef jerky is gone!

Beef Jerky from the store typically has sugar in it also. Try nixing it for a week or so. As Sandy pointed out though, weight loss is not linear. It's perfectly normal to go thorugh some upswings...especially after the initial loss. Your body will take some time to adjust to your new weight and eating habits. Let us know how it goes!

Yeah, most beef jerky bought from a store has sugar. Unless you make it yourself, always assume there is sugar in it somewhere.

Also as for hooters, I thought all their wings had breading?

              Re: Didn't cheat...I thought?

My suggestion would be to put your scale in a dark closet for a few weeks and go by measurements and how your clothes fit instead!
Your weight is going to fluctuate like crazy, so becoming obsessed with your scales is only going to add stress to your life, which no one needs.
You'll see many, many posts all over this board about how evil scales are. Please don't base your success, or perceived lack of, on what the scale says.
I think you're doing great....24 lbs in a month? That's an amazing accomplishment!

Very interesting.....I also thought hooters wings were breaded....I just went to their site to confirm, odd. I would still think since they are fried together, there would be residual, ya know. Pretty cool though.

Beware that store bought Jerky! I have yet to find any Jerky or Pepperoni that does not have added sugars, corn syrup, brown sugar, fructose....

Congrats on your overall loss so far... you're doing splendidly! Don't fret about scale fluctuations, but at the same time always be wary of hidden carbs. Check, check and triple check those pesky lables! (I always wear my readers round my neck when going to the supermarket, since Atkins!!)

                    hey, Tim.

Again, congrats on your loss! Woo, Hoo! Don't pay attention to that scale. Remember, the scale does not define who you are. The link that Sallyseachange posted was pretty insightful. You are making choices to get healthy and that is awesome. I too get the naked wings from the deli in my grocery store. No breading. I bring them home and melt butter and add tobasco/hot sauce to the butter and coat the wings. They are really good and I can put some in the fridge for the next day!

Don't let that scale sabotage you. No matter what it says you "are" doing this. And, you can achieve your goal.

                    Rock on,

Hey, you've lost 24 pounds...okay, so maybe you're having a "bloated moment" and have actually lost 29 pounds, but reality is...You're doing GREAT! I bet you'll be seeing better results once you readjust your salt intake.

How's your inches? Have you been monitoring those since you started?

Enjoy the success you've accomplished thus far!

You have to watch out for tomato sauces. Ketchup has more sugar than ice cream. Most tomato products have hidden sugar.

I'm with you! I started at 175 and was so happy to see 165, but now I've been stuck at 170 for a few days! I am currently attributing it to high sodium, so I'm cutting back to see if I get losses (although I didn't yesterday). I may start weighing in weekly to proect my sanity.

It sure would be nice if the forum auto-locked topics say 90 days after the last posting. One could always start a new topic and provide a link to the old one if they want to continue. It is slightly annoying to realize after reading a few comments that the topic is two or three years old and that somebody randomly posted on the end of it that day (and why?? didn't realize it was ancient??).
