  • Thinking about quitting Atkins after 3rd week

While I've lost 14 lbs in 2.5 weeks, I don't know if I'll be able to do it much longer. My energy levels have been VERY low and I just don't know that I'm wanting to endure through this the entire time I'm dieting. I'm 4 days into my extended induction right now.

I've gotten up at 4:30am starting this week to run a mile in addition to logging 5+ more miles a day walking. I've already improved my time from 10:40 on Monday to 9:58 today(Thursday). I've felt better throughout the day after running, but I seriously am ready for bed when I get home from work at 3:30.

I didn't have this problem with another major diet plan out there where I lost just as successfully in the past. Any suggestions as to why I should continue on Atkins and not go back to this other diet so I can get my energy back?

May I ask why you are in Extended Induction since you were able to lose 14 pounds in 2.5 weeks?

Adding in more veggies on rung one provides so much more variety and nutrition, and has jumpstarted my losses again.

I agree whole-heartedly with Mitzi! There is no reason why you need to stay on induction. Extending induction is recommended for those who are metabolically resistant to weightloss. And if you lost 14 pounds in 2.5 weeks, I'd say that's VERY successful and not resistant at all--that's something like 25% of total the weight you'd like to lose. Most people lose 5-10% of their total weight!

Move on to OWL Rung 1. The extra carbs will give you a boost (sometimes induction levels are too low for some people, and they will benefit by adding a few healthy carbs in the proper order) and like Mitzi said, might also jumpstart your weightloss...not that you need jump-starting! 14 pounds is awesome!

But remember, you must stick with a plan that you enjoy and that you can follow indefinitely. Atkins is NOT a diet, it's a way of eating, and once you go back to your old ways, weight gain is likely. If you don't like the foods, then by all means, find something that suits your tastes. But remember, Atkins DOES work, and it's incredibly healthy. So read up in DANDR about OWL, or check out some stickies in the FAQ forum. I think moving on to OWL is the right move.

No. If you lost weight just as successfully on another diet and felt better to boot, I can't think of any reason why you should be stuck to Atkin's and be miserable. As others have suggested you can always try to make Atkin's better for you by making changes, or just switch to something you already have had proven success with.

MOVE ON MOVE ON! Induction is not ATKINS! Do the entire plan. Rung one is more veggies and it sounds to me you need the energy.
