  • Staying on induction for longer?

I thought the induction phase is for people who are metabolically resistant and or have a large amount to loose?? I was planning on staying on induction untill I only had twenty pounds to loose, would that not be wise--also I guess I don't know or remember from all the other times what are the rungs ?? Thank You

How much weight did you lose during your first 14 days on induction? that will tell you how resistant to weightloss you are if you check the chart in DANDR. If you lost around 3-4 pounds it would mean you are highly resistant, so might benefit from staying on induction a while more as long as you were not feeling deprived and likely to start eating off-plan.

I would suggest not waiting too long before moving to OWL however.

Many of our members found that staying on induction for long periods of time seemed to slow their loss and moving to the second (main weightloss) phase of Atkins gave them increased losses while being able to choose from more variety of foods.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

The OWL rungs are the intervals at which you introduce new food categories and raise your carbs gradually. OWL is also where you test new foods for the effect they have on you: sensitivities, triggers, cravings etc.

If you go to the OWL forum (Atkins Diet Ongoing Weight Loss -OWL- and Pre-Maintenance) you'll find there are some great stickies that explain the rungs in detail.

I'd urge you also to get a copy of Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (DANDR) 2002 edition which is the one the board goes by as it was the last one written by Dr A himself, and so hasn't had other 'pens' interfering with it. It's a huge help to understand the science behind this way of eating.

      Happy losing!
