  • Day 16-Need Encouragement

I am on day 16 and have been in ketosis since day 3. I am following induction and have been very pleased with the way I feel. I am also exercising 3-4 times a week (30 min weights and 30 min cardio). I am taking the vitamins and nutrients and have even added the chromium and l-cartinine. Here's the problem. I lost 4 lbs on day 2, then 2 lbs day 4, then gained 1 lb day 6 and I have not lost another pound since (total 5 lb loss but none in last 12 days). I know I should not weigh every day but I can't help waiting for the day when I have a breakthrough. I don't think I have a metabolic resistance as I have always been able to lose well on Weight Watchers over the years (5+ lbs the first week and average 2 lbs per week after). I just can't seem to stick with the WW program so I am really hopeful with Atkins. I don't plan to give up but I need some encouragment. How can I be following the rules of induction and be in ketosis (next to the darkest purple) and still not lose? Has this ever happened to anyone out there in the beginning with good results to follow?

If you are the darkest purple, that can be a sign that you are dehydrated. The color doesn't necessary guage how much fat you are burning. And the color only needs to change...doesn't matter if it's dark or light. Kind of like being pregnant...either you are or you are not.

With that said...if you aren't getting enough water, your body will hold on to every drop it can get it's thirsty little hands on, so to speak. This will show up as no weight loss or maybe even weight gain on the scale. 64 ounces MINIMUM plus 8 ounces for every 10 lbs you want to lose, is the rule of thumb. I, personally, drink 125-150 ounces a day and more if I run that day.

I know it's not the water - I drink it all day long and nothing else (except Metamucil) - probably over 100 oz a day but thanks for the suggestion

I find myself in a similar situation. I don't lose as fast as the other people I read about on these sites, if I lose at all! The only suggestion I have is to pump up the exercise. I haven't lost and I'm on week four (two induc, two extend induc) and I haven't lost more than a couple water weight lbs. For the next three weeks my plan is to go to the gym min three days a week for min 1.5 hrs (1 hr cardio 30 mins weight training) and re-eval after the three weeks.

              5 pounds from a total hoped-for loss of 35 pounds isnt bad - about a 15% loss
If you had needed to lose a hundred pounds that would equate to a 15 pound loss!

With another 30 to go I would suggest moving to OWL now rather than staying on induction levels to give yourself the time to find your CCLL and see what foods (if any) affect you in preparation of maintaining your goal weight effortlessly once you reach it.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Chris, are you measuring? Sometimes when the weight isn't budging, your body is losing inches. Also, some people's bodies just need more time to adjust after induction.

After I finished induction, I gained and lost the same 5 lbs. for 4 WEEKS. I was discouraged, but visiting this board and the support of friends, kept me on track. A stall is defined as no weight or inches lost for 1 month.

Lay off the scale for a while, take some measurements, stick with the program and you WILL see results!

I was going to say the same thing - especially if you are strength training. You are probably losing fat but gaining muscle. Are your clothes any looser or fit any differently? My weight loss has slowed considerably, but I know that I am losing inches.

Keep up the good work - you will be glad you did!

I like you am on day 16 and have been in ketosis since day 3 also at the 3rd level!
I am following induction and have not cheated and I have also been very pleased with the way I am now feeling, I am also exercising 6-7times a week currently doing 45 mins every day on Tony Little's Gazelle Air Glider.

Also Like you I am taking the vitamins and nutrients i.e L-Carnitine, Multi-vits, Chromium, Q10, and Omega 3 6 9, and drinking 4-5 -250mls water. I lost 9 pounds my first week and I don't think I have a metabolic resistance either, bt weighed myself yesterday and looks like I haven't shifted a pound.

My brother who is also doing Atkins is losing quite fast and steadily, every week... I think because we are all individual, our bodies will decide when it wants to drop the weight...I think it is as simple as that. Try and not weigh yourself every day!

Sounds to me like you are all doing great! I agree with the people that said you are probably losing inches (which I'd rather lose anyway )

Keep up the excellent work! It will happen!!

And throw the scale out the window! (j/k...maybe!)
