• Going to Italy - HELP!

I'm on extended Induction - I started at the end of March, and have lost 25 lbs. so far. I feel great and not craving any bad stuff! Instead of thinking of this as a "diet" I've convinced myself that this is my new way to eat.

This weekend, I'm headed to Italy for a 2-week vacation, traveling around the country. I know there'll be good healthy food to eat, but I'm worried about the potential temptation of bread, gelato, pasta, pizza, etc. I will normally turn down all those foods, but I feel like "when in Rome".... I know that I'll WANT to try those things just to fully relish the experience.

Help me out with some advice and support here - I can (and WILL) be strong, but it's always nice to hear others' suggestions.

FYI: Since eating low-carb, I make a point to avoid Italian food or eateries, knowing that they tend to be full of high carb items.

I know....I don't mean to be whiny when I'm taking such a fantastic trip, but that's how important eating low-carb has become to me....

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I think you'll be surprised by the healthy food choices you'll find in Italy. Fresh veggies everywhere, seafood, lamb, veal, chicken, cheese, etc. I don't think you'll find it difficult to make wise choices while there. Opt for Antipasto salad when you can. Full of olives, salami, cheese, anchovies (if you'll eat them), peppers, ham, and vegetables. And have fun. I'm jealous.

Hiya Mookieloo! Congrats on your losses so far! You're doing splendidly.

About your forthcoming trip... I don't want to seem like I'm plugging my own article, but there may be a few hints in it that'll help you. It's about Atkineering in Italy (I've lived here for over 25 years). You'll find it in the Winter 2007 Newsletter. Here's a link to the thread that'll take you there: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...DBB+Newsletter

Hope you have a wonderful trip! It's a great place!

Thanks all (especially Sallyseachange!) - I guess I just needed to know that I can do this! When I get back, maybe I'll post all the goodness I got to "legally" enjoy in Italy....

          Thanks again!
