  • Getting Stalled on Atkins

Hello everyone, Im on my 5th week of Atkins, and all I've stuck to is the Induction phase (i.e. 20g of carbs or less a day) and its been working great up until this last week and a half.

I started out at 245, and now Im sitting at 215, in only 5 weeks! But the problem Im facing right now is Ive been lurking around the 215 since week 4 and haven't seen a change yet.

I use to have a shake in the morning at work when I started the diet, and I somewhat trailed off of the shakes.

For lunch, for the last 4 weeks, Ive been getting a Hardee's "monster burger" without the bun, which is a filling meal for sure.

For dinner unless I go out, I usually dont have any Veggies, but thankfully I eat out about 4 times a week, and with that, I have some Brocc. and salad when I have my steak and some Mushrooms, thats predominately what I get everytime I go out.

Im pretty sure im staying under the 20 carbs a day (with 60oz of water a day).

Has anyone else had this type of delay in weight loss?

    Re: Getting Stalled on Atkins

Yeah, that's pretty typical. Most people have the stall around the 3rd or 4th week, but some people have it in weeks 5-6. I'd go ahead and add MORE VEGGIES and move into the ongoing weight loss phase. It really will make a big difference. A lot of people when they start upping the carbs with vegetables find that the scale starts moving again.

I second VR, this is normal and I think adding in more vegetables would be beneficial at your point. That extra fiber also increases elimination, a good thing.
You have lost a tremendous amount of weight in a short period of time. Your body is taking a breather, getting ready for round 2 of weight loss.

Yep... quite normal. You'll start losing again soon if you hang in there, I'm sure. Try measuring too... the tape measure is a far more reliable guage of loss than the scales.

Definitely don't do without your veggies. You need those three induction cups (3 salad or 2 salad plus 1 "other induction veggies") for fibre, vits and mins. If you move to Ongoing Weight Loss rung 1 you add more veggies and many people find that on this rung they lose more than in induction.

Good for you, ditching the shakes. Those pesky bars and shakes cause more people to stall than you can imagine!

Keep going...day by day... and the weight will go.

          Re: Getting Stalled on Atkins

You haven't really stalled unless you have not lost any weight or inches for 4 weeks. I, too, went through a plateau at around week 5. For the next 4 weeks I gained and lost the same 5 lbs. But I started using fitday.com to track my food choices and I added some more exercise and water. The weight started coming off again! It also helped to measure. Often times when the scale stays the same, inches are coming off. Stick with it and it will change!

          4th mini goal- 179 lbs.
