  • Help! Need advice on food for vacation.

I'm going on vacation in August for 9 days to Disney. I am on the extended induction. I am on vacation so I won't be able to prepare foods as I would at home. We are staying in Disney so there is no access to a grocery store. I am concerned about gaining all my weight back, Ok obsessed is more like the word. I've even thought about just surviving on water but I know that's not healthy nor possible for me to do. I've lost 28 pounds and I NEVER want to see them again!

Instead of anxiously awaiting that gleam in my 2 year old's eye the first time he sees Mickey Mouse, I'm worried about what I am going to eat. I feel horrible for feeling this way.

If anyone has been in the same position, I would appreciate the advice.

    Thanks,
    Michelle

I know you can get Salads there... and Turkey legs... I had them...lol It might be hard but I am sure it can be worked out.. If you eat at one of the restaurants at the motels you should be able to get something legal too

Re: Help! Need advice on food for vacation.

Adena can tell ya all about it in her journal...check out her family vacation in the journal chats. She did a GREAT job!

What I might suggest are a few things....

when you're at a resturant...be bold, ask for what you want and don't be afraid to ask for accomodations!
---for instances....I asked for double steamed veggies with my baked fish instead of the rice. No problem! The waitress was happy to comply!

When you're at a fast food joint...be bold, ask for protein style instead of the bun, or bunless (like most places are calling it now)
---I brought inside my own drinks and veggies and still saved a bunch of cash for the vacation.

Bring a cooler....park it in the car if you need to and...

pack more veggies than you think you'll eat! Pack more proteins and cheese than you think you'll eat. Make up flax muffins and enjoy them with cream cheese!

I'd steer faaaaar away from jerky or super duper salty stuff (unless it's unsalted).

Most of all....drink you water and enjoy the time with your family while remembering that your on vacation with them to relax...not to eat

Ps...all else fails...move up a rung or two and work with staying within the amount of carbs per day, but not go over.

Re: Help! Need advice on food for vacation.

I'm going on vacation this summer as well (on a cruise) and am worried about the temptations too!!!

You said you are "staying at Disneyland..." Does this mean you are going to the Disneyland Park and staying all day? Or does this mean you are staying at the Disneyland Hotel? I got the smoked Turkey Legs over in the Humpback of Notre Dame part of the amusement park. They are pretty big and satisfying.

Are you renting a car? There is a grocery store down the street from Disneyland (I think it is still called Food4Less). You can buy foods that work for you, take them back to the hotel and keep them cool in a cooler.

There is also the Disney City Walk aka Downtown Disney, which is an outdoor mall that is attached to the Disneyland hotel. There are soooooooo many resturants there that I am sure you can find something to eat at any one of the many resturants. Just be careful of all of the temptations. They have a lot of sidewalk vendors that sell snacks (no different from like inside the park) such as the churros, cotton candy, kettlecorn, carmel/candy apples, etc... That was my downfall once (the kettlecorn) when I went to the Disneywalk. The website below is about the DisneyWalk and all of the stores there. You can stay on track... Hope this helps..

Thanks for all the info but I forgot to say Disney World in Florida. I bet they have similar restaurants there. Those turkey legs sound good. Can we eat the skin? I will have to look them up.

We arent renting a car. Even if we did hubby would never go off disney property to get food. Last time we went off Disney for cigs (a habit I broke years ago) our rental car was broken into and my husband suffered identity theft. So I would never ask him again since it was my fault that I needed cigs!!

Thanks so much for the advice, I really appreciate it.

Re: Help! Need advice on food for vacation.

I seem to remember that at EuroDisney you could get all kinds of low carb foods in the restaurants... (wasn't low carbing back then when my kids were small, so this is just a vague memory). Maybe EuroDisney is different to the States ones though, with more European style foods. I do remember that they didn't have any food shops there though, so people were more or less obliged to eat at the restaurants... which were very expensive.
Maybe take some canned things (tuna etc.) for emergencies.
