  • Inspiration??

    Hi All,

It has been a while since I have posted. Hope all is well in cyberspace for fellow Atkineers!!

My post is really about my experiences. I have done Atkins since Jan 2006 - really you could say that I am on Stage 2/3 of the plan. Well, not quite - let me elaborate further.

Being on the plan for so long, and losing a fair amount of weight in my time (close to 30kg) really life could not be any better. However, lately I seem to be cheating a bit.. well more than a bit. Quite a bit.
I don't know what it is. I fall of that dreaded wagon..and then get on...and off....and on - and it seems to be this way for the last 3 months or so.

I used to be religious in the WOE. But my INSPIRATION seems to be in far-far away land (sorry, just watched Shrek 3)!!! Ha!!

Anyway - I vow tonight, that tomorrow is a new day...
No more Coffees in the morning (ouch), no more Pepsi Max, or any other soda (ouch) I am going to watch what I eat. Do a mini induction to get back on track - and excersise like there is no tomorrow.

I don't want you all to think that I need validation in this. I guess I don't want to feel like the only one (and without this board, sometimes It really does feel like I am the only low carb eater in Australia!!)

Thanks for all the support - it is great to come here and read so many stories... cross your fingers for me!!!

    Peace
    hydra!!!

      Re: Inspiration??

Congratulations on realizing you need to tighten things up if you're going to make your goal!

You might try to figure out exactly why you were getting lax on Atkins. I've had a couple of lapses myself. I figured out my problem was 1. Being fat is protection from some things I don't want to face. 2. My body has changed pretty fast and I have some trouble coming to terms with the changes. Even if they're for the good, it's still different.

The mind is much harder to control than the body. If you can get a grip on how you think, the actual weight loss is really not that hard.

I hope this helps to know that most of us struggle at times, but you can only succeed if you keep trying. Hope to see you at goal soon!

Good luck to you Hydra. You sound like you are at a turning point now and will get back on the right track. The past is in the past and there is nothing you can do about it. I know you can do this going forward. You sound very committed.

Good to hear you've decided to re-commit in a big way Hydra! You can do it...
It's hard to get back on the wagon after recurring cheats and bouts of carb creep, but really, if you can get through the first couple of weeks, then you'll find you get right back into the swing of things and your cravings will recede.

              Re: Inspiration??

              Hi all!!
That is great advice from everyone -

I have just walked in from a big night out. It was the end of financial year party and I knew that it would be a test.. and because my mindset was firm, it actually wasnt that bad. I ate good, and drank water.

I really feel like the beginning of a new chapter has begun.

This WOE is worth it, if it is a struggle at times. I think that it needs to be tough - otherwise we wouldnt overcome the challenge that it brings.

Tomorrow is really day 1 again. And I am planning that it is the last day 1.

              Thanks for the support guys...

                Re: Inspiration??

...by the way - I weighed myself this morning and I am close to 100kg - so all of those LITTLE cheats have taken its toll - and I feel like I am bigger.

Now, of course, I will lose a few kilos in the first week again (mainly water?) but it just goes to show how much you can gain by just doing LITTLE things.

                Keep on rollin'!!!

                  Hi All,

Update: The cheats are getting the better of me....

Well, the last post before this was a week or so ago, and I did well all week - up until yesterday (Saturday) when it was my sons birthday party. I wont go into too much detail regarding the cheats - but it has really got me thinking, and I am wondering how many people are actually doing what I am doing at the moment?

                  The pattern seems to be:
Clean Induction for a few days,
                  Cheat,
Clean Induction for a few days,
                  Cheat

                  ...you get the message.

Anyway, as I say I am starting to analyse this a little more, and before anyone says that it is a commitment issue (which is possible) I think that it is more than that.

Do I want this bad enough? (I do)
What is making me slip off (I believe it is noticable change)**
Is it commitment (I think I really need to re-assess this)

**What I mean is physical change (i have been around the same weight for months now)

Okay, I may be rambling a bit here... but essentially I need to get back to basics. I think the reason I am where I am is that I have been doing this so long, without any drastic change over the last 6-8 months, I am slipping ALL the time...

Is anyone in a similar position to me?? I would like to get some views!!

Thanks again for all the support here!!

                    The pattern seems to be:
Clean Induction for a few days,
                    Cheat,
Clean Induction for a few days,
                    Cheat
I too fall into this pattern, my problem is I have 4 kids and a husband that like to eat the food that I buy for "mommy" to get skinny. They see the cheese, salad, hamburger meat etc. and mow down on it.

After about 5 or 6 days I'm out of what I can eat and I start eating their stuff.

We're in the middle of moving, so we're not buying a whole lot of "extra" food to stock up, just to make it easier when we pack. I feel when we get settled in, it will be easier, perhaps some will say it is lack of commitment, I don't think so.

You need to have a clean path in order to do this (path I mean, support, foods, state of mind etc) WOE/WOL. I know we can do it, its just difficult when you stall, I know.

                      Re: Inspiration??

You need to figure out why you're sabotaging yourself. Something inside you sees more benefit in staying the weight you are than losing more. You need to confront whatever it is and find a different way of dealing with it than eating. At least that's my experience.

Also, I don't know if you've been going up the rungs, but if you haven't, that might help you stay on track. That way it's not the same old thing, you're adding foods all the time. The variety could help you stick with it.

Whatever you do, good luck and I hope you can get back on track to stay. You've done really well in the past and I know you can make it to goal.

                        Re: Inspiration??

I think you are right Loose - something inside me is stopping me from weight loss - not quite sure why though!!

Today was once again day one of induction. I have a huge headache, and I am craving for something sweet. However, I know today was the hardest day.
I went to the gym and had a great workout.

I have about 15kg to lose. I have lost around 30kg already.
I know it is a lot to ask - but seriously, why not??

It is interesting to find out why we drop off the wagon. Is it a so called ""treat"" to have carbs?? Or is it that you have not seen any change is so long one little bit won't hurt?? Or IS IT variety??

This WOE/WOL (as with anything) is 99.9% Mental. If I can get things straight upstairs, the weight will come off downstairs!!

Thanks again all you guys for posting. This place is starting to pull me along when all INSPIRATION is gone!!

                        Regards

                          Re: Inspiration??

I feel like you have been reading my mind. I too went back and forth since my first successful try at Atkins. It took me over a year to get back to the right way of eating (and thinking). I suppose I am staying on track better this time around because I will not allow a cheat to equate failure. In a perfect world I would be 100% Atkins since April 30th but alas, life is not perfect and either am I. My goal is to follow the plan to the tee and I have done well, but am not perfect. So, this time around instead of failing and quitting I am being patient with myself. And IF I screw up I just get back to basics for a few days and move forward with this WOL. I do not have a "cheat this one time" attitude because I know how hard it is to return to ketosis. But giving up is just plain "not an option" for me. It may take more than a few months to get to goal. Heck, it could take more than a year. But I am going to get there this time.

                          Good luck to all!
