  • Swollen ankles

Hi everyone! I am on my 3rd week following this WOE and I feel great as I am under total control of my eating behavior. What I am worried about is about the fact that my ankles are pretty swollen since the last couple of days. I must say that my TOM has been delayed for up to 4 days now, and I think it has to do with this. I am drinking >3L of water on a daily basis, exercise 3-4 times a week, so I think everything is fine. Has anybody else suffered this extreme water retention during phase of this WOE? I am starting to be a little worried and am going to the dr next week...

BTW, I feel fine overall..I mean, nothing hurts at all...it's just this swelling that is so uncomfortable...

    Re: Swollen ankles

Sorry to hear you're having this discomfort.

Can't say I've heard of other people having this, but dieting does make for some hormonal changes (also to monthly cycle, which might explain your delay) so this could be the reason. I'd see how you go for a while longer and then, if there's no change, go to your doctor. Better safe than sorry. I'm willing to bet though, that it'll pass pretty soon and you'll get back to normal.

Let us know how you feel soon!

      Re: Swollen ankles

Well, guess what! My ankles are swollen because I am pregnant! Now I have to stop induction and go straight to Maintenance... and both happy and shocked as I was not planning on becoming pregnant at this moment...

              Re: Swollen ankles

Thank you so much, sally! Now I am worried about what should I eat in order to not gain weight, not regain my CHs cravings and keep the baby healthy at the same time.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                  Re: Swollen ankles

Canela... definitely maintenance, where you only really take out sugar, white flour and highly processed foods. Should be very healthy for the baby.
There's a forum called "Pregnancy and Nursing on Atkins Low Carb Diets". You'll find it in the forum list. Several members are pregnant right now, and I'm sure will be able to share tips and give advice if you hop along there.

                    Re: Swollen ankles

Thank you both for your advise. I've had a look and found very useful info. I am sure I'll do fine this time! On my first pregnancy, I didn't have the info I have now, so this time I feel more secure. As long as I keep my blood sugar low, I will still keep my control, and I am happy for it.
