What do you do when there's a discrepancy between what the actual package says and what the book says? For instance, for hearts of romaine lettuce my DANDR book says 1 cup has 1.3 carbs but the package says there's 1 carb in 6 leaves which measured out to almost 3 cups. I've noticed differences in alot of my other labels, too. I know there are going to be differences between brands on some things, but I'm especially wondering about the lettuce - I mean, come on - it's lettuce. Shouldn't all romaine be the same?

Re: Question about nutritional info labels
No, because induction we are supposed to be learning about appropriate portion control...AND choosing vegetables that get more bang for your 1 cup "buck". As you've already seen, there just isn't much nutrition in romaine lettuce. So, your 2 cup allowance of "salad" veggies would be better spent on something like cucumber, or jicama, or something like that. Try jicama if you want crunch.~Joy

Re: Question about nutritional info labels
If you feel the need for mroe veggeis why not move to the first rung of OWL?
You could then 'legally' eat 5 net carbs more of the induction-legal vegetables!!
No need to move further up the carb ladder till you feel ready to add the next group (Dairy), as many people stay on the veg rung for several months.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: Question about nutritional info labels
I've been thinking about moving up a rung, but since I've only lost 12 pounds I'm a little afraid to. I've read that moving up can help with a stall, and I've been stalled for awhile now, but I'm afraid I could undo all my hard work in just a few days. What would you suggest? I'm also having a hard time with my appetite, as few things sound appealling right now. Do you think moving up a rung might help with that? Thanks for the advice.

Re: Question about nutritional info labels
I don't know anyone who got fat eating veggies LOL So, by all means, if you are past the first two weeks move into OWL rung 1. Then you can have 5 grams of that lettuce (if you can eat it all). But, make sure that you are eating lots of nutrient and fiber dense veggies. They are good for you!!~Joy

Re: Question about nutritional info labels
I've been working in plenty brocolli, spinach, and tomatoes. Also throwing in some brussels sprouts when I need to get things moving. I think I'm going to hold off on those rungs for a few more days, as I actually saw a tiny change in on the scale this morning. Maybe my exercise challenges are starting to pay off.Originally posted by ValidRougeI don't know anyone who got fat eating veggies LOL So, by all means, if you are past the first two weeks move into OWL rung 1. Re: Question about nutritional info labels
I really would suggest that you start climbing the ladder of OWL, you dont have much to lose and you need to know what foods your body does and doesnt like, ive lost MORE weight since i moved on to OWL than i did on induction!! i lost 14 pounds on induction and 41 pounds on OWL! move up!! you need to learn how to do this WOE for life, its not a quick fix and you cant live on induction forever!HW 303Aug '04 SW-287 LW-232Restart - Apr 07 - SW 266 CW 225
