  • Discouraged - Only lost 2 lbs

I had been on Atkins a few years ago and did very well. Just a little background, I am 5' 11" 31 year old Male. I weigh 265.5 pounds, and my goal is 200 lbs.

I did induction for just over two weeks, and I weighed today for the first time. I have only lost 2 lbs. The entire time on induction I kept my carbs below 20. I re-read the Induction part of the Atkins book just to refresh my memory. Cheese was less than 3 oz each day. Splenda was 3 packets or less ( if any ). I used heavy cream on some days, but that was 2-3 table spoons.

I checked to see if I was in Ketosis periodically, and I was. I know I did everything right. I also walked/cycled/played tennis about 3-4 times a week.

I am just really discourage. i was hoping to see some results. I am leary of moving on the the next phase if I only dropped 2 lbs on this part. Any suggestions?

Just keep going. HOWEVER, do NOT fall into the trap that less carbs or lengthening induction will get you any better results. There are many members who, when they move into OWL and start adding foods back (particularly more veggies), lose MORE WEIGHT than on induction.

If, you do add more veggies for a week or two and up your carbs a bit, and don't find any losses you can always move back down into induction.

I will start drinking more water ASAP! Starting tomorrow. I had only been drinking 64 oz, and will increase that to 100 oz. I am also going to take measurements next saturday and see how they compare, so we shall see!

ValidRouge - Your before and after PICS are great! I just joined the "non-smokers" club 3 weeks ago!

Discolemonade - You don't even look like the same person in your after picture! Amazing job!

Thanks for the replies... I am going to get keep up the good work I am doing, and be patient! Thanks

              GoIrish--Okay...now we're getting somewhere!

If you were only getting 64 ounces, you need a LOT more than that. Just keep at the water. I find that I've gotten myself into a routine. 1 24 ounce bottle (room temperature goes down the easiest for me) while taking my vitamins and supplements in the morning. Then I work on another bottle on the way to work. I have one more at work before lunch, another inthe afternoon and one more in the evening. That's 5x25 for 125 ounces each day. YAY.

Everyone is always looking for a magic weight loss pill....Well, there's something even BETTER and it's FREE....WATER!!!!

Congratulations on being a non-smoker!! That is a great thing you've done for yourself. I'm not one of those people who gives a rats @$$ about what me quitting smoking has done for my loved ones...yes, harsh, but true. I'm glad I quit smoking for ME! Anyway, be glad YOU quit.

Now...the ugly truth. Part of the reason you're having a hard go of it is probably because you quit smoking. BUT THAT'S OKAY! Your body will come around soon enough and start losing again. I gained 12 lbs when I quit smoking and had a devil of a time with cravings. But I just white knuckled it through and all has been right since. Keep up the good work. This will pass and you'll be a much, much healthier, thinner, happier, nicer smelling person in no time at all (considering the grand scheme of things).

By chance have you been recording your food..........like on fitday.com or something? Because I would like to know what your fat percentage is. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be at least 65% but I feel really good when it's at 70%. By feeling really good, I mean I feel satisfied for longer periods of time, therefore I am in control of my eating. For instance, for breakfast I have 2 large eggs and 1/2 tbl. of butter. It's amazing but I don't feel hungry until just before lunch time. Sometimes, not even then but I eat something anyway.

The point about giving up smoking is a good one. I don't have any expertise in that area but it sounds logical to me that your body is going through massive change. Maybe give it more time? I know it's hard.

But congrats on giving up the cigs. I watched my Father die of emphysema and my Mother is on oxygen herself with a lung disease. You made the right choice!

Disgal - I have not used fitday. I signed up for it a while back, but never took the time to explore it. I gave up rather easy because I didn't want to take the time to input all that info!

For example, today I have had 4 deviled eggs, and a "burrito bowl" from chipotle containing barbacoa ( beef ) sour cream, lettuce. How would I input that info into fitday?

Is a burrito bowl from a restaurant? Sorry, never heard of that one. Did the beef have any seasoning in it?

If the restaurant has any info on a website, you can input it on fitday by using the "new custom food" link. It's on the page where you input all your food.

If they don't........then I just make a good estimate.......2 cups lettuce, 2 tbl. sour cream, 3 oz. beef...........like that, putting them in separately.

And did you make the deviled eggs? Just put in what you made. For instance, 3 large eggs, 3 tbl. mayo.........whatever.

Re: Discouraged - Only lost 2 lbs

I use dailyplate.com which has a lot of the prefab foods in there, as well as more brand name things and it's easier to search than fitday. just an option.

And I completely agree with Joy. Water is magical. I quit smoking on this WoL, I didn't gain weight, but I stalled for like, 6 weeks even though my eating was good and I was working out. It was really frustrating.
