  • Rough time on 2nd day of Ext. Induction

Yesterday was my first day of extended induction. I had about 1 oz of nuts last night as a snack. It was a nice change because I have followed induction to the T. Well the Problem is that I have had several cravings today for rice as in rice a roni , icecream, breading off of something fried and a few other things I cant recall at the moment. I actually woke up this morning craving the rice. Bear in mind that I havent had any cravings for carbs since avout day 5 of induction. My question is do you think the nuts could be a trigger food for me? I have a hard time figuring out what my triggers are at this stage in my program. How do you decide what is a trigger food for you? How I dealt with is instead of eating what I was craving I just ate kind of what I wanted of Induction friendly foods, in other words I didnt measure any food I just eyeballed it and ate. I did eat a little more meat than usual.
    This is what I ate.
Breakfast- I wasnt hungry so I didnt eat.
Lunch- We ate at golden corral
2 leg quarters of rotisserie chicken, approx 1/2- 3/4 c brussel sprouts, 1 bratwurst link
    Dinner- We had leftovers.
1 LC meatloaf muffin (4 oz), 2 small chicken legs, approx 1/2 c brussel sprouts, 2 bites tomatoes & okra, about 1 c Bowl of home made LC broccoli cheese soup
Snack- muffin in a minute (microwave flax muffin)

Even after I look at it I dont think I went over 20 carbs. What do you think? Thanks.

Absolutely! Nuts, particularly peanuts are NOTORIOUS trigger foods. That's the reason they aren't allowed on induction. I'm not sure why Dr. A allows them on extended induction...but if he wanted to do that, I wish he would have specifically omitted PEANUTS (peanut butter, etc.)

Congratulations, you have just identified a trigger food. I know how intense those cravings can be. Just white knuckle until the cravings subside and avoid peanuts in the future. I would recommend avoiding nuts until you get to the nut rung in OWL. I also would recommend you re-thinking staying on extended induction. If you move into Rung1 which is just more veggies, you could add snacks of vegetables (instead of notorious trigger foods) which would actually be more beneficial (vitamins, minerals and FIBER) to your weight loss efforts. You could stay on rung 1 for as long as you want.

      Great response Joy

Also good reaction to the cravings from the nuts, hpnodat Eating on-plan is a good way to help counteract those feelings!!

I think you might have gone over your one-cup veggies, and you were short your 2 cups of 2-cup veggies too but I doubt if you exceeded 20 net carbs.

Do you log your food to count your carbs? I found that most useful when I started out 4 years ago. One website many of us find useful is www.fitday.com where you can open a free account to keep track.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
