  • Question: Veggies and Special Category foods

Disco: I eat brocolli and Cabbage, asparagus and Zucchini.... basically because they are my favorite veggies... is it important that I eat other ones? Its kind of hard to get anything to exciting here right now...

Re: Question: How long have you been doing induction?

What about tomatos or green beans or onion? I'm not very adventurous when it comes to veggies so I just added more.

i dont understand how green beans are acceptable? arent they a legume?? I find onions have so much carbs that it does the opposite - fulfills carbs tooo quickly.

I think i'll have a look around the supermarket tonight. I hope extra veggies kicks my cream habit. hehe

        Dot,

Broccoli, cabbage, asparagus, and zucchini are all from the Other Vegetables list on page 126 in the book. When on Induction, you are to eat 2 to 3 cups from the Salad Vegetables list on page 125. If you only eat 2 cups of the Salad Vegetables, then you can add a cup of the Other Vegetables. Once you move onto OWL, you can start adding more veggies from the Other Vegetables list, but that is in addition to the 2 to 3 cups of Salad Vegetables.

When in OWL, you still keep the basic Induction menu as the base of your eating, and add food from the other rungs on top of that.

Green beans are listed as string or wax beans from the Other Vegetables list on page 126 in the book.

Re: Question: How long have you been doing induction?

Thanks!!! that makes sense.... but I have a 'salad veggies' question for you.

Every day for lunch (at work) I dice a stick of celery and add half an avocado and a little pinch of alfalfa sprouts - which i add to a can of tuna.

This, quantity wise, makes around 2 cups of veggies - the celery really bulks out the cup measure. But my question is: can i have more than this or is this enough? My salad veggies being basiallu one stick of celery and half an avocado. Fits the cup measurement - doesnt really seem like much.

            Thoughts?

you can have your 2-3 cups of induction veggies and 5 net carbs extra when you are on rung 1.
to be honest, I have 3-4 cups of veggies from the "other veggies" list because I can't seem to get enough carbs to reach the 30 net carbs.
that's while being on rung 3 actually but I just can't seem to get more than 30 carbs even with yogurt and flax or peanuts, so I didn't increase my carb count on that rung.
me personally I try to get to around 20 carbs of veggies only now and fill the rest with whatever I'm allowed to eat.
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

If you look at the 'allowed list' of vegtetables, Dot, you will see they do not include avocados, so you dont have to count the half of an avocado as part of your 3 cups
Avocados are included as being one of those 'special' foods you can add to your menus if they dont cause you problems.
So you can have 3 cups of veggies in addition to the 1/2 avocado
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I interpret that to mean one out of those, not all in the same day, as there is an 'or' between them, not an 'and'.

Green beans are fine for induction and are on the one-cup list.
