Please do not continue to read if you are sensitive to discussion of body stuff/gastric disturbances.

Today I made the choice to celebrate nearly 3 weeks of clean eating by having a special ice cream sundae. I had read that occasionally people can have a "cheat day" without dire consequences if you're willing to return to induction eating to induce ketosis for a few days after. And it's my TOM and I NEEDED it and hubby tried to talk me out of it and even refused to get ice cream when we went but I got it. And I LOVED IT! Every bite...for like 10 minutes until the entire 3 scoop sundae with caramel topping, crushed sugar cone bites, whipped cream, and a cherry was completely gone!

Then came the downside... 45 min later I was in our bathroom for almost 20 min with lots of watery green diarrhea. I don't know how it went through my body that fast. It surged through my body. Of course I don't know how much came out. Only that it required several flushes. And it took many, many minutes.

The good thing is that I never want another sundae ever again. The bad news is ... and I don't know what this means, that I went to take my measurements tonight, and I gained an inch on my thigh. I don't understand. We moved the measuring tape up and down to different parts (just to make sure we had it in the right place) and it was 1 inch larger. Why would that be? Surely the extra inch in my tummy could be bloating or due to the error of my ways today... but my thigh?

My husband tried to comfort me and say it was muscle but... the scale only budged 1 oz up today. I know we can't know the effects of today fully until a few days from now and the fact that it set me back a few days but I made the choice to eat it today knowing that because the craving was so strong and it only happens once/month. My Da Vinci syrups came today (sugar-free) and I'm hoping to get a plan in place with those that will satisfy me for next month’s TOM.

Anyway, does anyone know why I gained an extra inch in my thigh this week after 3 weeks at the same measurement? Is that normal?

you should always weigh/measure at the same time everyday!

i always stick mine to before ive drank or eaten anything on a sunday morning, could that be your answer?

Alternatively are you working out? it could be muscle gain.

I'm glad you had such a bad experience with ice cream! that'll teach ya!

Nope I measure Wed night at about 9 pm (before my "breakfast"). I weigh daily. Not sure I'm strong enough to join the most recent challenge-- but it was prob made for people like me.

It could be muscle gain...but shouldn't that reduce inches and add weight?????

Lesson learned from the dairy! I'll be sure to skip sugar-filled ice cream sundaes when I get to the "dairy" rung. Already experimented with those unsuccessfully. Pretty sure they're not going to be compatible with my new diet

It could also be water retention. There's just as much fluid filled tissues in your thighs as there are anywhere else, I'd say flush your system real good. The sodium level in that cheat is probably huge too. Don't do it again.

Sounds like water retention to me too. Drink masses and it'll help.

Sorry you had such a bad experience! Ice cream is the one thing that I'm going to miss very, very much...sigh. I agree about the water retention. If it can make fingers swell so that you can't get rings off, it can certianly bulge a thigh! Get back on track and Good Luck!!

The ice cream didn't go through you that quickly. If I'm not mistaken, I believe it's called tenemus--what you secreted. That's exactly what happens to people with gastric problems.
As for the thigh, I would think it's water retention as well. You shouldn't measure or weigh everyday. It'll only make you obsess.<--I've been there. It torments you because you think the scale is truly going up, but it's not really you're true weight. I feel MUCH better now that I'm not obsessed with the scale.

I was told not to weigh any time but the morning... one day I measured and had gained an inch in my neck and totally freaked out! I had measured in the afternoon that day... well, by morning it was gone.... now I'm a morning girl.

                  Re: confession of sour celebration

My mornings start at 9 pm... I work nights So i measure at 9 pm everyday. I ended up losing a pound and a half last week and moved to owl. And we've made 3 trips to friendlys (hubby is finishing up our free ice cream coupons) and I haven't had any ice cream since.

Got right back on track... I weigh everyday because it keeps me on track. I know that for many people it may sabotage efforts because they give up if they weigh a little more...for me it inspires a conscientious effort not to cheat and to contiinue exercising even after a bad night at work or when I feel tired.

                  Thanks all!
