  • Abdominal Pain

I've been in ketosis (I test myself two or three times a day) for over a month now. And in the last two weeks, beginning when I woke up last thursday feeling a little morning nausea and diarrhea which cleared up later in the day, I have been having very very sparse (once every 8 hours, and somedays none at all) bouts of what feel like abdominal cramps. Has this ever happened to anyone else out there? I take multivitamins, calcium, and fich oil supplements daily, in addition to which after first onset I took some exlax and then metamucil once daily for regularity, I am 35, i drink maybe a diet pepsi once in the morning at work. I drink only water, selzter, and Diet Rite (or other non-aspartame soda) at home. I drink at least 8 8oz cups of water a day, easily. I weigh about 350, I have lost three pants sizes and about 30lb in the last months.

any info would be great, thanks.

    Re: Abdominal Pain

Are you eating your veggies, and how many cups are you eating per day? What types of veggies are you eating?

I would suggest posting a menu--you might be missing something in your day (or eating too much of something) that would give you such problems.

        Re: Abdominal Pain

I have abdominal cramps - but more of a period feeling, since being on atkins with out 100% vitamin reinforcement kicks me into menstrating about every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. UGH! I know! So if I start cramping up or bleeding, the first thing I look at is any vitamin deficiencies.

Ok, let's go over this menu of yours. First of all, you are not doing extended induction. I don't know what rung you are on, exactly.

          But consider this:

          1. A diet pepsi in the a.m. plus some diet rite at home is too much for your system. It can cause stomach upset. It is also not part of induction.

          2. Grapefruit is not allowed on induction. It is high in acid anyway, and can cause stomach problems.

          3. Carb Control Strawberry Yogurt is not allowed until the dairy rung. It is not allowed in induction.

          4. South Beach bars are not allowed on Atkins. They can cause stomach problems.

          5. That's too much sugar-free jello. Maybe one a day, but probably even that is too much.

Look, I don't know what eating plan you are on, but it's not Atkins. If you are serious about doing Atkins, go back to the book, read up on induction, and start over. You will probably find that the stomach upsets/cramps/whatever go away pretty quickly.

          I survived a two-month stall!

            Re: Abdominal Pain

The exlax causes gas pain. It builds up a lot of gas before it lets you go to the bathroom.
Plus, don't take exlax unless you ABSOLUTELY have to. It's bad for you if you take it too often. The metamucil should do the job. If you get too constipated go see your doctor.
Soda can cause some people to get constipated or give them intestinal discomfort. Too much calcium can also make you constipated.
