  • Which Nutritional Values Do I Use??

Its slightly irritating when the atkins book and the nutritional values posted on the back of products do not match up... which should I use? For example I bought some Sargento non smoked aged provolone and swiss, the nutritional facts on the back say 0 carbs, but the carb counter in the book and on atkins.com says .6 per ounce. My number one pet peeve is the atkins products which say there are only 2 or 3 net carbs in them but the facts on the back just do not support that. I've made a few mistakes since the 1st of september when I started so I've extended my induction. I have not cheated I just trusted the atkins bars and shakes... I think they stunted my weight loss. I do not feel like I am on a diet and I'm having problems with that. I feel like I should be hungry. I do not weigh. I will at the end of each month. I think I would get discouraged if the weight loss was not significant. I've workied my butt off. Where can I get those nifty counters that I see on other peoples post? I think I would like one. As you can see I have a lot of questions and concerns and I thank everyone in advance for their help to a newbie!!

I use the info on the packets where they differ from the book or from www.fitday.com. My reasoning is that the manufacturer/grower is likely to have a more accurate idea than the 'average' info elsewhere.

As for cheese - Dr Atkins told us to count each ounce as being one carb when calculating our 'up to 20 net carbs' each day.

The Atkins bars, no matter what the label says, contain ingredients that are NOT on the allowed list of foods so should be avoided till you are at the OWL rung/level where they are all 'legal'

I know, we are told all our lives that to lose weight we have to suffer hunger pangs - isnt it great that with the Atkins Way of Eating we are told to eat if we are hungry!!

Many members get their weightloss counters from www.tickerfactory.com and paste the url into their signatures along with some basic info about themselves like gender/age/height. these statistics as well as weight and weight-to-lose (that will show in your 'counter') will help others give relevant advice if you have questions about your weightloss progress.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Hi Sheri, welcome to the board. Fitday is an aweome tool for keeping track of everything.

Why are you on extended induction, if you don't mind my asking? I would bet that the shakes and bars have absolutely stunted your loss. Ellizellen is correct, they are loaded with illegal things, including sugar alcohols, which shouldn't be deducted for net carbs. In other words, if the bar says 18 grams w/ 2 net grams you are most definitely consuming 18 carbs. They should be used only in a dire emergency. It's much better to eat whole, fresh foods.

I think there is a lot of rounding down.
If its 0.9 Grams of carbs, I bet sellers and producers want to put 0 grams of carbs.
Like Equal says its 0 calories. but I know there are calories in dextrose and and maltodextrin. So you always have be careful for these calories.
Like I did not know Balsamic Vinegar has calories...I thought it had 0.
You have to be an educated consumer, and over time you will see what works and what does not.
        Good luck.
