  • Help advice needed

I started on 9/4/07.I have been on an extended induction due to the fact that I have so much to lose.

The first 2 weeks I lost a total of 23lbs. I know it was mostly water loss, but it was a great start for me. It has now been 2 more weeks and I have lost .8 I have been bouncing around 312.2 and 311.2. I weigh in every morning at the same time. I didn't let the weight bounce around bother me at first, I figured the weight loss would slow down, but not completely halt after the first 2 weeks. But now I wonder if I am not eating right. Also it's not only the scale not moving but my measurements are the same. So I thought I would put my menu down and see if anyone sees what I could be doing wrong.

    Breakfast (same every day)
3 large eggs scrambled in 1/2 tsp olive oil, with 1 tsp mayo. No salt added.

    Lunch
4 oz chicken, or tuna in oil
1 cup iceberg lettuce, 1/2 cup cucumbers, 1/2 cup bell peppers
mayo mixed with vinegar for dressing

Dinner (I chose one of the following as the main course)
8 oz chicken breast w/skin roasted; 8 oz canned salmon; 2 double cheeseburgers from McD's plain w/o bun; 8 oz ribeye steak
1/2 cup of one of the following: brussel sprouts, asparagus, zuchinni,
    broccoli or cauliflower

    And for dessert
3 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup pumpkin, 1 pkt splenda.

When I started Atkins I gave up all caffeine, and drink at least 115 oz of water a day. I take a mutlivitamin w/o iron daily. I have started to walk
    30 minutes a day 3 times a week.

The only problem otherwise that I have had is constipation. I take psyllium husk capsules daily, and they still don't seem to work.

Please help, I would like any and all advice from anyone.

Your menu looks great to me. Well done, and congrats on your loss so far.

You know, this is probably PISS (post induction stall syndrome) (!!). It's very, very common, after the first losses, for the body to take a small rest weightloss wise. Usually you start losing again pretty quickly. You could easily be losing inches instead of lbs right now, so it's well worth measuring. Inches are what really count. The scale can be an evil beast at times. I personally had a six week long pause, but my clothes got considerably looser.

Stick with it, and I'm sure you'll be back on the downward (scale) slope soon.

Maybe try flax seed for the constipation. You might do better with that, but be sure to drink plenty when you eat it. There are lots of flax recipes too, if you do a search.

                Re: Help advice needed

I think there are a few reasons why people temporarily stall out for a little bit of time.
                1. Water reabsorbtion - I don't know how scientific this is, but you do loose a lot of water initially, if you are 300lbs you going to loose a lot of weight in water initially and you probably reaborb a good amount of water, eventually. That might make it seem like you are not burning fat, but as long as you are in ketosis, your burning fat for energy and that's a good thing!
                2. Constipation - Being backed up is going to compound the illusion that you are not burning that fat but the fact is that your bowels can carry a lot of weight should be considered.
3 Time of the month - Some women are hormonally more varied than others and that can affect the metabolism and water retention in a women more than a man. I would like to see some research on low-carb/ketosis and how that affects female hormone levels.

Most of those ideas have already been discussed but I just wanted to add my 2 cents!

I think your meal plan looks good. You can't help but reach your goal if you maintain that diet. Stay positive, keep yourself motivated and in 6 months you'll look like a new person, I bet.

                  Re: Help advice needed

My personal opinion, and I have only lost maybe 20 lbs, which I am happy about. Don't weigh yourself every day. I was doing that, and it was so discouraging. Doing it once a week was so much better and I saw results, which kept me on plan. I take a ton of supplements outlined in chapter 20 I think. I have not had a major constipation problem, where pre-atkins, I did all the time. Keep doing what you are doing and you'll see results. Trust me, If I can do this, ANYONE can do this. Keep up the good work.
