  • A little Frustrated

So I just completed my third week on Atkins. I am doing extended introduction because I have a lot to loose. I do a weigh in every Monday and I was really excited this week to weigh in becuase I had started to exercise. I am walking 1 mile daily and doing 30 crunches a day. So when I got on the scale this morning I was very disapointed. I thought I would be down weight, but I was the exact same as last week at 196. What is going on?

DON'T lose heart!! If you keep doing this and doing it right the weight loss will come. Aside from PISS it could be hormonal, lots of women regularly stop loosing at certain points in their cycle. You obviously FELT as if you lost weight - are you measuring? It may be you lost inches but not pounds, which is also quite common.

You have lost 15% of the total you want to lose. 5-10% during the two weeks of induction is about average, so that was quite high, so your body is probably just taking some time out to adjust.

For reassurance that you are doing things right, you might like to post a daily menu, in as much detail as possible, in the Menu Review forum. You could be eating too little!!

And I would echo Emma - think about moving to OWL, the extra veg on the first rung especially can really make things move along now that your body is primed after induction.

... and in addition to PISS and hormonal, a third thesis which is that the exercise is having a temporary effect on your muscles. Part of the cycle of building new muscle mass is the breakdown of old muscle mass, and during this process the muscle tends to retain a little water.

I noticed we have almost the same start weight and goal but I started about a month as you and we almost lost the same amount so you are doing good! I too started exersizing (treadmill and weights) and am losing slower than I like but my shape is changing. Just hang in there and the weight will come off. I remember the first time I did Atkins I only lost about 4 pounds in two months and then BAM...it just melted away quickly.

Did you take your measurements when you started? Inches lost are a great thing!! The scale has moved slow for me but the inches are just melting away. If you haven't measured run right out & get a tape measure!!!

Have you measured? Don't let the scale have that much power over you. You stuck to the plan and you exercised. Persistance and a positive attitude will make it happen. Believe in yourself, keep a good attitude and focus on how great you are feeling and healthier you are getting. Best wishes.

Ditto what the others have said, and... if you've only lately started to exercise, this too could easily be the cause of your pause. You might be building muscle which weighs heavier than fat, when comparing the same volume. Do your clothes feel looser?

i am gonna have to go back and read everyones comments if i should stall. these types of things in life are inevitable, and sometimes when we cannot hurdle over the obstacle anymore........then maybe we can walk around it in some way.

there will always be a positive direction and we must follow that road!!

                    Re: A little Frustrated

I agree about moving on to OWL (are you noticing a theme here? ) I lost most of my weight in the first week or so... didn't lose much of anything the second week or the next couple of weeks on extended induction. When I moved to OWL and added in more veggie carbs, the losses quickly began again. Good luck to you!
