  • Bob Greene's best advice (IMO)

Bob Greene is the guy who worked with Oprah to help her lose her weight. While I dont know much about his diet system I read about half of a page of his book that my sister bought - and I thought it was a really good point. If you can get in the habit of not eating within 1-2 hours before bed time you can start weening yourself UP to 2 1/2 hours and then finally to 3 hours. So if you go to bed around 11:00pm, you dont eat anything after 8:00pm. I really think this is a good choice. He also said it is a good thing to go to bed a 'little' hungry as you know your body is going to need to burn fat to fuel your body.

That sounds good, but then we shouldn't be hungry as that throws us into starvation mode and the body holds on to the fat Rule one of induction is do not skip meals or go more than 6 waking hours without food.
I'm not sure really if thats good advise or not.

Bob green's theory will not apply to atkineers as our bodies are burning fat 24/7 not just when we have used up all those hundreds of calories of carbs his dieters are eating every day

Well. It's not really a theory - it was a case study that worked for 92% of people .... but I guess I see what your saying ... kinda?

Actually Bob Greene's diet, the one that Oprah is one is VERY low carb. Not Atkins but it includes absolutely NO SUGAR, NO STARCHES...no "white food" for at least THREE months according to what Oprah says in her O magazine.

And they exercise six days a week twice a day for at least two hour sessions.

Oprah may still weigh 163 (she wants to lose 10 more lbs) on her 5'6 body but her muscles are so freaking tight...doesn't look like she has barely any body fat. The woman almost has a six pack.

They are definitely burning fat and not CARBS on Bob Greene's diet. Processed carbs are restricted in most trainers regiments just not in the same formulation as Atkins.

Well, I wish I had the luxury of exercising in those amounts, and maybe I'd have at least half a six-pack.

However, between working and raising a family, I'm fortunate to get one exercise session in (over and above walking the dogs two or three times a day). One dog is often contrary and won't go far, while the other wants to go for hours. Too bad I couldn't choose to take just one - but that's not possible.

Well, getting back to your original post and off the Oprah bashing (although I admit I'm not a fan), I think this is a good idea. I know that I often find myself eating a snack late at night when I don't really have to eat. There are some nights when I really am hungry and it's been a while since dinner, but there are far more nights when I find myself eating cheese or something legal when I really should have just drank a glass of water.

every human being on earth that doesn't eat more calories then they burn during their sleep cycle will be burning fat and in ketosis that is how our bodies work even on high carb eating But as an akineer you don't have to worry about getting your fatburning to start by eating earlier in the day as you are priming your burning with a fats as food to so you burn fats all the time.

cnwade low carb/high protein low fat. protein is burned as sugars too in the human body on any nonketogenic eating plan you wil have to be burning up all the sugar sources before your body calls out your body fat reserves.

The last thing I do at the end of any day is exercise, and I always eat 30- minutes prior to that for fuel and it's been working really well (so if I walk at 9pm, I ate at 8:30).

Green's way of eating and exercising sounds interesting, nonetheless! My guess is that there are many variations on the same theme (low carb), and with enough exercise, a lot of people would probably fare well on that, too.

The Oprah bashing's not really fair.. I uhm, have never watched her show, read her magazine or anything like that, but still!! I work out for 2 hours 5 out of 7 days, work over 40 hours a week and am a single parent to a toddler, ****, if I can fit all that in, imagine what I could do if I didn't have to make dinner, get kid dressed, fed, bathed, to daycare... I could be mad skinny in like, 2 weeks!!! Anyway, my point is that where there's a will there's a way...

I didn't post that for Oprah bashing ...but people always assume that if something isn't Atkins then it must not be as easy, or the right way..etc. I shared not to compare contrast or defend either method..just to point out that Oprah is probably eating less carbs than most Atkins folks...so to make an assumption about how her body is burning fuel is just inaccurate and ignorant as in without true knowledge of all the facts.

It's her way and its working. I also try to fit in two hours five to six times a week. No servants, trainers, here and I have crazy work hours...often 15 hour days...but I am single so that helps.
